"The Beam" Sunset tonight in Glastonbury.

The US just voted alongside Russia, Belarus and North Korea against a UN resolution to support Ukraine. This is a wake-up call for all those cheerleading Trump in our country.

This is how our government has been corrupted:  1) Donors give huge sums to elect politicians to office.  2) Elected officials rewrite the rules in the donors' favor.  3) Donors make a huge profit.  4) Repeat. For the sake of democracy, we must get Big Money out of politics.

This is exactly why we need to make @bsky.app the biggest social media platform on the planet. We need to do it at pace and with urgency. We need share the truth & the facts far & wide - & then, at the earliest opportunity, send those truth twisting & lying charlatans, wherever we find them, packing

🧵"So this is how liberty dies..." Trump’s first 3 weeks have been a relentless flood of actions. It's incredibly hard to keep up. I’ve gone through 69 actions & mapped out the pattern - showing how they fall within 5 broad domains consistent with authoritarian states 1/9

Today we've been out hearing from Uckfield voters disappointed at the cancellation of county council elections for East Sussex. With @benedictdempsey.bsky.social @tim-murray.bsky.social @zel-ouse.bsky.social @kwrightwrites.bsky.social

Good to be getting those steps in, campaigning for the #LibDems in Uckfield today! With @benedictdempsey.bsky.social, @tim-murray.bsky.social and @zel-ouse.bsky.social 🔶

Incredible from Bishop Budde: "We don't have to go to the highest extremes of contempt when we are in a position of disagreement. I think if we could get that back as a country, we would go a long way in being able to work together to address the many problems that we face." ~AA @maddow.msnbc.com

🚨 "Ministers have rejected calls for the UK to move closer to the EU in order to boost economic growth, insisting that Brexit has brought “opportunities” and some benefits for the British economy.” Imagine the shock when they see this

More Britons would rather have the EU than the US as Britain's closest trading partner The EU: 53% (+2 from 2 Mar 2020) The US: 21% (+4) Neither: 7% (-3) yougov.co.uk/topics/inter...

💥 Great news that the House of Commons will debate Proportional Representation for general elections in full ⏱ The Backbench Business Committee Chair announced this is scheduled for 30 January 🏛 First Past the Post is damaging trust in politics. We need a National Commission for Electoral Reform

💥 Last month Parliament voted for Proportional Representation for the 1st time ⌛ But the Bill is unlikely to get parliamentary time to proceed 📢 Yesterday @alexsobel.co.uk, Sarah Olney & @elliechowns.bsky.social made the case for a full debate on PR to take place in the House of Commons Chamber

Sussex LibDem MPs @jessbrownfullermp.bsky.social, @alisonebennett.bsky.social and John Milne joined us marching through Chichester today peacefully demonstrating in favour of holding local elections for West Sussex County Council this May, rather than delaying or cancelling them.

I've updated my word clouds after 100 responses to my survey of what it was like on NHS front line during first year of Covid & ongoing impact. It's pretty heartbreaking. survey still open here: surveymonkey.co.uk/r/PKH9MRT All responses to date are here: drive.google.com/file/d/1U5te...

Liberal Democrats have long called for a cross-party consensus on social care. But the work shouldn't wait for another 3 year review. There are changes we can make now, today. We cannot fix our NHS if we don't fix social care first. @calummillerld.bsky.social

'Today I'm calling on the government to negotiate a brand new deal with the EU.' Ed Davey urges the government to join a customs union with the EU to 'Trump-proof' our economy.

Literally all they had to do was calmly condemn Musk’s dishonest & inciteful attack on their parliamentary colleague, Jess Phillips. And they couldn’t even manage that. Absolutely shameful.

Here’s a challenge. Our colleagues @sussexbylines.bsky.social were a little late to the Bluesky party, so they’re lagging in followers, which means not as many are reading their excellent output. You know what to do - how many can you help them add this weekend? Please share. 🙏

New Christmas lights just went up in Clacton. (Farage is still the MP who makes most money from second jobs. By a long way.)

💪 "Our APPG is, I think, the way we bring about PR. We're fighting for Fair Elections." 🎙️ Our Vice Chair Lisa Smart MP discussing the work and importance of our all party group on the @politicshome.bsky.social podcast

LAST DAY! This is the last day of my Open Studio today (Saturday) I am here until 5 this evening. Lots to see, including the work of Duncan Tattersall, Sussex Lustreware, Angie Lewin and Paul Evans. I hope you can make it along. BN8 6QA

Please retweet if you want the Labour government to do its utmost to restore the Freedom of Movement that was robbed from us by the worst abuses of democracy in modern British history.

This is great from Sarah Olney. Establishing a fair voting system really should be a priority to restore trust and engagement with our battered political system.

I was proud to support this Bill in the House of Commons today. It is a significant step in the right direction on long-overdue reform to our unfair and outdated electoral system. @libdems.org.uk www.theguardian.com/politics/liv...

One reason why I joined the Lib Dem was because I wanted votes to matter regardless of where you happen to live Today I was so pleased to support Sarah Olney's bill, and to be part of a Parliament that's voted to support a fair voting system Why not join us libdems.org.uk/join

In unsurprising news, ⁦@amcarmichaelmp.bsky.social and I have just voted for ⁦Sarah Olney's bill in favour of proportional representation in local elections, in somewhat more surprising news, we appear to have won!!

Just love this Guardian front page 😊

This is AMAZING news! Congratulations to Sarah Olney MP and thank you to every MP who supported #ProportionalRepresentation in Parliament today.

💥 Really pleased that MPs have PASSED the ‘10 Minute Rule’ motion from Sarah Olney MP in favour of Proportional Representation for parliamentary elections and local elections in England 🧵 1/3

"This is the most disproportionate election result that this country has ever seen." Congratulations to Sarah Olney whose PR Bill has passed to second reading 👏👏👏 She's right: we urgently need a fairer system where all votes matter. Help win it 👉 makevotesmatter.org.uk/2024-winter-crowdfunder/

'A fair voting system is an essential bedrock of a functioning democracy' - Spot on Sarah Olney MP And in a symbolic vote, that is what MPs have just voted for: #ProportionalRepresentation. Next, the government must agree to a National Commission on electoral reform.

MPs have BACKED Sarah Olney's Lib Dem bill on electoral reform. This is a historic day for fair votes. Today, as we have done for a century, Liberal Democrats are leading the fight for fair votes and making sure that no one can be ignored in our democracy.

💥 Really welcome to see this passed by MPs - with strong support from the Labour benches 🙏 Congratulations and thank you to every Labour MP who voted for Proportional Representation today 💪 The government must listen to MPs and the public - and launch a National Commission for Electoral Reform

Liberal Democrats have always led the fight for fair votes. As we have done for a century, we will continue to fight for electoral reform to make sure that no one can be ignored in our democracy.

MPs will today vote on Sarah Olney's bill, which would introduce electoral reform and proportional representation to elections in England. Following years of the Conservatives’ denigrating standards in public life, we urgently need to restore the public’s trust in politics.

From today, please let’s agree the collective noun for “women of a certain age”: “a handful”. And every power to them.

So pleased to find Sune Auken here - who #FBPE folks in the UK might remember helping us through "some" (that's understatement) dark days. US friends who now need that help - I highly recommend you follow. 😊
