Grocery delivery from amazon: “one item was unavailable. You’ll have to figure out which one!”

This Friday, I'm going to somehow fit in Severance, Yellow Jackets, and White Lotus. Somehow.

All the Stars is a Kendrick song I totally forgot about! So good.

So many books are available within Spotify premium. Not sure I really need my expensive Audible subscription anymore.

Surely there is a solution for this whole vending machines w/ cheetohs right outside classrooms where I need to use a computer problem

I follow eight people on Bluesky and therefore, when I log in, I see the same stuff I saw yesterday. And it is just delightful.

This is so needed. Hard to believe we haven't already made something like this. Nice work @mikemorrison.bsky.social

Oh, NOW is when everyone thinks Zuck is the worst? It wasn't when he turned Facebook from a cool way to connect to friends to brain rot and AI generated ad-infested memes years ago? Okay. Also, almost everyone I know who makes a "I'm leaving facebook post" comes back. I keep track.

Here's the best way I can describe teaching during the AI storm. I'm in a constant state of developing: 1️⃣ Immediate stopgap measures that get me through the day 2️⃣ Long-term plans for what I think teaching will look like in 5 years. Ideally, #1 would lead me to #2.

One thing that's always intrigued me is that Cal Newport has famously said he's never had social media... but his show exists on YouTube (and podcast form). So, is he not on social media or is his chosen platform just less of a conversational platform than, say, X or LinkedIn?

After almost a year of using it, I can say that an ergonomic split keyboard (a Corne) has been an incredible investment. It is truly hard to go back to any other keyboard at this point (though I often have to).

I'm wondering why there hasn't been a big push to move research papers away from fancy formatted PDFs to just plain text/markdown/mermaid. Enough structure so that fancy graphs and graphics and maths can be included, but so that data extraction is simple.

My 6 year old is going through a spooky season. He's always shied away from any books or shows that are even a little bit spooky. He now describes these kinds of media as "spooky but exciting" and "horrifying, but interesting." It is so cool watching humans grow.

Something I need to lean into more in the new year is "High Quality Leisure." This comes from Cal Newport's book Digital Minimalism and it's the idea of scheduling leisure like you would anything else. I've been making a list of HQL for years but always end up scrolling on my phone.

On being seen: Some things happen quickly; other things sneak up on you. I was chatting with a friend who once felt like the least valued person in their workplace. Inexperienced, battling imposter syndrome—you name it.

Whenever I lift weights consistently, my body always transforms. Almost like magic. I feel stronger, look more confident, and things just *work* better. I need a consistent practice like this, but for my mind, which has been overtaken by algorithms and sensational click bait/thumbnails/AI/etc.

The question we all need to ask ourselves is... What problems do we *want* to grapple with? Which challenges are *worth* the friction? What issues are worth banging your head against the wall? The answer to these questions will help us navigate through this era of automation.

I know I'm going to take some heat for this, but here goes.

One thing I'm noticing about starting over on short form... I want to be very selective about who I follow. Feed cultivation wasn't really that important when I joined Twitter in 2006, but it sure is today.
