A functioning democracy, how novel! Whoever gets elected, it sounds like AoIR is going to have an amazing new executive committee ushered in at #AoIR2025 💖 @aoir.bsky.social

I’m quoted in the Toronto Star today to explain how digital platforms make us “height police” our 🇨🇦 politicians as if they were online celebrities or Hinge matches 🫢 How does your pick measure up? 📐

I had a blast giving a guest lecture on Digital Ethnography to BA students at the University of Amsterdam yesterday about my ethnography of the London creator community-industry. Teaching ethnographic methods is always one my favourite things to do, thanks for having me @uvahumanities.bsky.social! 💗

Platforms & your toxic ex: both gaslight you, but one calls it 'community guidelines'🚩 @bloggeronpole.bsky.social, Pam Briggs and I illuminate the lived experiences of creators on TikTok & Instagram, exposing how gaslighting is used as a strategy in moderation🧵👇 journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

Americans being forced off of TikTok because of the US Government's sinophobia only to flock to an even more Chinese social media app is so funny to me

The TikTok --> RedNote migration is really reminding me why I love the internet so much <3

I don't know how many of y'all are watching the migration of American TikTokers to RedNote, but it's the most fascinating thing I've EVER SEEN HAPPEN ONLINE. 🧵

Summarising some thoughts for my book conclusion 😆

Join us in Boulder for our ICA preconference 'Debating Creator Culture'!! Deadline for submissions is January 31st, all info linked below 👇🏃‍♀️💗

The CCSN is now on Bluesky!! 💗🥳🌟 Follow for updates on everything the network is doing and planning, lots of exciting things coming down the pipeline in 2025 🤩

Amazing job at USC!! Creator Studies scholars at the ready 🏃‍♂️🫡

So glad to have been part of the editorial team that brought this and other great pieces together for an Algorithms for Her special issue in the Journal of Gender Studies! 💗

Waiting for academic jobs to start emerging in the UK when I have less than 6 months left in my current job and a move back from the US with a toddler and baby is a fresh kind of torture 🫠🫠

So happy to have been part of the editorial team for this Algorithms for Her special issue in the Journal of Gender Studies! Great article linked below 👇💖

I wish there was a "Don't Include in My Algorithm" button on YouTube (and other platforms) for when you want to search for something but don't want more of that thing to be offered to you in the future. My front page is all random parenting/music stuff, totally messing up my usual recommendations!!
