Someone did the reading.

A 40-day Target #boycott began this week: What to know about the #Target Fast. Faith leaders are calling on shoppers to divert their spending from Target to #Black-owned businesses during Lent. www.startribune.com/a-40-day-tar...

Rep. Zooey Zephyr - My Wife - just gave an incredible speech against a drag ban in Montana. It was so strong that a Republican rose to speak passionately against the bill, chastising the sponsor. The drag ban dies in Montana, flips 10+ Republican votes! This is the power of representation.

👏 THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE. USADF employees block DOGE employees from accessing the building. wapo.st/3FjdEeP

I could see Katya doing an amazing comedic impersonation of Gwen Shamblin. Maybe also Trinity the Tuck.

I wrote four new poems based on this prompt. I haven’t written a new poem since May of last year.

I’ve been writing morning pages since…August, I think. I used to just free write, with words. Then I started doodling and drawing. And today I wrote 3 poems.

If you’re dealing with Covid right now… please don’t give up on mitigations. Don’t give up on masking. Don’t blame yourself. It’s hard to stay safe when so few people are taking precautions. Never forget that by masking, you ensured not to pass the virus to anyone else. You protected others.

BREAKING: We're suing the Trump administration to stop the transfer of migrants to Guantánamo Bay. The administration has been sending immigrants from the United States to Guantánamo Bay without legal authority and in violation of due process.

Earlier this year, I applied to a residency in Finland. Today I was notified that I was waitlisted with a partial scholarship.

This is partly explains why folks vote against social programs, health care, etc… they don’t think they will need them, and dont want to pay for someone else. Both reasons based on flawed assumptions.

I can't think of a faster way to undermine the country than simultaneously firing government workers, cutting scientific research, rolling back protections on public health & environment, & cutting essential services. It's like the US was defeated in war and is being occupied by a hostile enemy.

wiping out the government of an entire nation is an act of war, and it should be understood as such, regardless of whether it was an inside job

American Economic Blackout

(living in a country where the most successful people are obscenely rich and shameless perverts and psychopaths) Time to teach my children to be honest and study hard in school

Remembering that creativity takes time. I often think of it like a natural cycle. Sometimes it’s autumn, not spring. Sometimes I need to release old work, not expect seedlings.

Reminder (for myself as much as anyone else): Hanging out with a like-minded friend, even for just a cup of coffee, makes you feel less alone AND less hopeless in the face of *gestures in antifascist*

My artist date this week is attending today’s abundance workshop organized by FreeFrom, a national survivor-led organization on a mission to build a world free from gender-based violence. www.freefrom.org

I am looking forward to today’s weekly mass call with @indivisible.org. During “the calls each Thursday, Ezra and Leah take a few minutes to talk through the week’s news.” Then they move into “calls to action before answering questions from the thousands of folks in attendance.”

Bummed I missed last night’s mass call with @workingfamilies.org, because each month it fills me with hope and inspires civic/political action.

Watching white lotus with the balcony door open. In the final scene, monkey sounds increased just as the coyotes in this LA canyon started to yip and police sirens from below were wailing. For a moment, they all blended together into some kind of song.

I borrowed this book from the library. When my boyfriend’s bandmates set up for practice in the living room, the book was on the coffee table.

I heart Tina Smith.

This vote was to start the process of the cuts. It WILL come back for a final vote. There are some chances to slow or potentially stop it. Need constant pressure on GOP Focus on GOP swing seats & key committees. Energy & Commerce is where the Medicaid fight will go down. Ways&Means for tax fight.

Also if you feel strongly about Eric Adams, you should call your city councilmember to express that and ask for their position. You’d be surprised. Hochul’s stance is highly disappointing but it doesn’t come from nowhere. Press all your electeds. City elections are in 5 months. Ask candidates too.

I hit a hard wall this week of how much horrible news I can absorb in a day. Have disconnected from social media the last few days to focus on writing. Pleased to say that I have 16k done on A Brief History pt. 4 😅 there was too much going on in Missouri in the 1830s, its gonna be a long one.

The hellebores bloomed!

Maddow: I think it is a bad mistake to let Joy Reid walk out the door. It is also unnerving to see that on a network where we've got two nonwhite hosts in primetime, both of our nonwhite hosts in primetime are losing their shows, as is Katie Phang on the weekend. I do not defend it.

These 3 characters capture the venom prevalent in female friendships. I’ve stepped away from longtime friends and groups bc of this aggressive behavior. The aggression, while rarely revealed but definitely felt, exists under the mask of love and friendship and care.

Just sharing some lines that I read in the last 24 hours.

Sarah Faith Gottesdiener on haters: “That backlash? It’s fear. “That projection? It’s insecurity. “That passive aggressiveness? It’s jealousy.”

“The Visionary Dissolves What’s Broken. There is nothing that terrifies those who benefit from our current power structures more than the dreamer with discipline.” -Xenia Marie Ross Viray

“When a woman sense that there is a mythic dimension to something she is undertaking, that knowledge touches and inspires deep creative centers in her.” -Jean Shinoda Bolen

Koi, rain, trees, moss.

Writing and publishing are two separate things. They’re intertwined. But they’re separate and distinct. I think it helps to remember that as you write. To write as if it will be or needs to be published will influence craft choices.

I keep pulling this card. It’s a little confusing bc nothing comes to mind immediately, but this message did help me write the first scene of a new short story.

What’s Grounding Me? Calm the Chaos: www.chroniclebooks.com/products/cal... After I read daily headlines on Democracy Now, I pull a card from this deck.

Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.
