This was my classmate. He was a student in my ethics class, and we used to sit next to each other. Most dedicated person in the class to legitimate justice for all people. He legitimately cared. I am so horribly heartbroken

The president of the United States and the president of El Salvador have conspired to kidnap a man and hold him hostage in an El Salvador prison. This criminality ignores the rule of law and thumbs its nose at a Supreme Court ruling to facilitate his return.

Why do you think Trump created this video? What RESPONSE do you think he wanted ? Did he want everyone to panic, rather than talking about how Stewart Rhodes is an adjudged terrorist but Abrego Garcia is not?

You don’t have to be particularly sharp to decipher the code here. But if you need someone to say it, this is a major technology company and a sizable defense and intelligence contractor publicly declaring, with only the thinnest patina of deniability, that its cause is white nationalism.

you have to judge these things on a scale. Is it as big as George Clooney reporting that Biden is old? As big as Tim Walz mixing up what month he was in Hong Kong in 1989? As big as ANTHONY WEINERS LAPTOP?

In federal court in Vermont today, lawyers will challenge the ICE detention of Rümeysa Öztürk, a Turkish grad student & former Fulbright scholar charged with no crime, targeted b/c of an op-ed in a campus paper. You've probably seen the jarring video of her arrest. Here's more:

Bukele stated he would not return Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the United States, saying it would be like smuggling “a terrorist” into the United States

At least one US president cares to denounce this attack.

For my money this is the biggest change in the political culture. The lies pols used to tell where usually defensible on some narrow, myopic vector. Now they just wholesale lie, and it's different. Pretending it's in good faith precludes appropriate action, so the old norms are now actively harmful.

“The President, Vice President, and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.” - US Constitution Article II, Section 4 IMPEACH

The president told a Central American dictator to build five more massive slave labor camps to hold US citizens.

Reading coverage of the Supreme Court's opinon in Abrego Garcia's "favor" and feel like I'm going insane. The White House says his return is up to El Salvador, which the U.S. is paying millions of dollars. *Of course* El Salvador is going to "refuse" to "cooperate," this is all so stupid

Intolerable tyranny. No free people should stand for it and anyone who does is an enemy of freedom

There’s been a lot to be upset about in the last few months. But as an American, this truly disgusts me. The USA’s closest ally now is a guy who calls himself the “coolest dictator” — this Oval Office meeting is like a huge F.U. to the judicial branch and the Supreme Court’s 9-0 decision

I don't think I've seen this argument directly made like this in a case since January 20, but other lawyers and judges — and the Supreme Court — should be thinking very hard about this.

We are at a dangerous, dangerous moment in US history, where the President of the United States is threatening to send US citizens to be imprisoned by a foreign ally, and the foreign ally is saying it won't respect an US court orders to release people that it's holding.

So, if I understand correctly, the President of the United States is saying that the Supreme Court of the United States consists of nine “sick people,” including three whom he appointed. apple.news/AMHDqIFcpRxi...

Earlier this year, employees began to fear bad actors, could target people for punishment by declaring them dead: “Anybody granted the appropriate permissions within Social Security could mark someone as dead, employees had realized, without having to prove their demise in any way” wapo.st/3RKSQQt

That fucking Nazi face needs to be ... fill in the blanks .. Miller is Goebbels reincarnated

I agree. In a functioning democracy, we would already be in the midst of an impeachment trial.

“The Trump administration has ordered State Department employees to report on any instances of coworkers displaying ‘anti-Christian bias’ as part of its effort to implement a sweeping new order on supporting employees of Christian faith.”

It's all open now. The money launderers now getting their laundering license back if they kick in a few dirty dollars to Boss Trump www.wsj.com/finance/regu...

Restoring trust and credibility to the United States will require not just pushing Trump out of power but putting him and all his cronies in prison.

Keep talking about the Signal security lapse at the Pentagon. The media may have forgotten about it, but the voters have not.

“The customs official canceled Ms. Petrova’s visa on the spot and began deportation proceedings.” One way to understand Trump effect in govt: an ever widening circle of people, like low-level customs officials, get to make categorical decisions abt lives of others. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/11/s...

Called my congressman who voted for the SAVE act. Me: What documents will I need to vote if this passes? Staffer: a DL and birth certificate. Me: The documents don’t match Staffer: Then a marriage certificate. Me: Will my husband need the marriage certificate too? Staffer: No Me: See the problem?

Not a single word to help the 33m small businesses in this country. Not from anyone in the administration. So many buy from China, and don't have alternatives. So many didn't have the cash to front run the tariffs and buy inventory

Indeed, this is *exactly* what's wrong with last night's #SCOTUS ruling, as I wrote about in this morning's newsletter: www.stevevladeck.com/p/141-abrego... Everyone saw this coming. And yet the Court did what it did anyway.

It's nice to see the NYT pull back the curtain and have an in-depth talk with its editor in chief

Donald Trump is delusional about his tariff policy. 25th this man already.

yeah man, please make my 85 year old great aunt prove her citizenship to vote in rural georgia, this definitely isn’t reminiscent of anything in the american past

Republicans have replaced the elephant with the scaredy cat as their official symbol

We don’t need lumber tariffs. Lumber is already taxed for the same reasons the Trump administration is wanting to tax Canadian imports as a whole. The plan shouldn’t be to double tax lumber. It should be exempt from this April 2nd announcement due to the 34% tax already in place. …

no justice or safety for americans. the federal government is instead now protecting the king's car dealerships. hail to the thief.

Cory Booker is planning to stay on the senate floor for as long as he can stand. He is planning a marathon speech including a multi part presentation on how President Trump is harming the country. talkingpointsmemo.com/news/inside-...

Seconding this. If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know I’ve called out Booker before for not doing shit, but it’s important to also recognize when our electeds are starting to move in the right direction, and encourage them to keep going.

Exiled Russian journalist Mikhail Rubin said last week there was little resistance when press rights began to disappear in Russia. “We did not resist for the small things." Everyone was waiting for the worst to occur before resisting, but when it finally did they had already lost ability to resist

Dear Wisconsin, Elon Musk is buying another election. This time it’s a seat on your state Supreme Court. If we are ever going to defeat the oligarchy, it starts with rejecting their self-serving agenda at the ballot box. Get out there and vote. Elbows up.

It’s really pathetic that Elon Musk is allowing so many bots on Twitter to defend White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. If you have to fake support, then it’s probably a sign that you’re probably failing at your job.

A state judge in Boston has dismissed a case against a man who was taken into federal custody in the middle of his criminal trial last week, citing prosecutorial misconduct, and found a U.S. ICE agent in contempt of court.

Mike Lawler on Trump possibly running for a third time: "As a Republican, I and many would not be open to the idea of Barack Obama running for a third term. So I think folks have to be careful here."
