FWIW I don't pretend to know enough to critique JD Vance's rendering of Catholic teaching. What I object to is JD's characterization of the Trump agenda as a careful outward ordering of ethical obligations. Trump is shrugging off the global poor entirely. There's no ethical vision here of any kind

JD Vance justifies Trump's policies with "ordo amoris," the ordering of obligations in concentric circles. But Trump isn't engaged in a careful weighing of ethical duties. He's forswearing off any and all obligations to the global poor entirely.

The Chicago pope has been chosen to challenge him, and all dictators on the global stage.
Draw the line and defend it - for all humanity.

I'd love to interview one of these guys about their Bible knowledge.
Catholic and that’s exactly what JD does:half truths it. Ultimately, moral actions can be judged according to whether they spring from love, but only from love directed toward the true good.
Language didn't arise out of nowhere. What Trump and Vance are doing is hanging a bullseye on people, and despite their claims to the contrary, the poorest and most vulnerable are at the very center of their target.
