I had a dream I was a kid and my family and I went to go out to eat at one of those old school Pizza Huts. The smell, the sound of the arcades...I felt like I was a kid again ;_;

Anytime my family and I would go to a Pizza Hut restaurant when I was a kid was always a special night. I always loved the servers bringing out the deep dish pizza piping hot in the pans and we always ordered the breadsticks as well. π Definitely good times.
Not to sound like a xennial boomer, but I felt Pizza Hut in the 80s and 90s were just way better than today. Something about it back in the end felt kinda special.
My senior year in HS, I washed dishes at the local one and prepped the Pan Pizza pans for dough. I was shocked when I was first shown how. 1 ounce of oil for the small, 2 for the medium and 3 for the large. No wonder the crust was so crispy, it was basically deep fried as it went through the oven!
My local one still has the exterior but of I remember right the interiorβs completely changed, none of the lighting and I think they even got rid of those red plastic cups
Nothing beats eating in an OG Pizza Hut building...it was an experience xD. I don't really eat out to much but if I find a stand alone old school Pizza Hut, I'll definitely stop for a Pizza to eat there xD
I miss when these places all stood apart from each other. These days if you cover just the logos you'd never guess what restaurant you're in. No more arcades, unique decor, or fancy chairs :(
It is funny it's a 40 minute drive but there's one with the old style where I live and I totally go out of my way to go there for it (beyond it being worlds better than other locations where I live)
Kids these days don't know but back in the 80's/90's, Pizza Hut used to be considered premium because it was more pricy and had a lot of creative pizzas (Bigfoot Pizza!) but it really had a magic to it, especially when it was such a rare treat as a kid growing up xD
Okay so we had this weird little game-test thing called "Reading Counts" and I abused the hell out of it. I read way above my grade level, so I just kept re-taking the same tests year after year, while actually slowly reading my big books. I got so many Pizza Hut and Frosty coupons it was wild.
We have one around here that's pretty much the 90's setup, minus the arcade, but without the screaming kids and those thick plastic cups it's not the same haha
Not to mention back then their pizza wasn't nearly as greaseball as it is today, they used better ingredients instead of cheaping-out. Now I could get a slice and lube my car with the leftovers.
There was just something magical about it β€οΈ I also loved that book program they had where if you read a certain amount, you get a free personal pizza...I remember feeling so proud of myself when my mom took me to get it because I felt like I earned something and it paid off xD
I wasn't around in the 80s and a majority of the 90s, but I loved going to Pizza Hut in the 2000s when I was a kid as they did the Book It program in school and I always wanted to get a free personal pan pizza for reading books ^^
I Still think they're the best of the big chain pizza places!
I must have come around a little late for their prime, because sadly my local one had some of the worst pizza I've ever had. This was only a couple years back, before they shuttered for good.

If I could quantum leap into my younger years to do it all again, I probably would.
Huge nostalgia, even if I was always the awkward kid lurking in the background. The atmosphere was amazing.

Limited locations, but...

I fondly remember the good ol' days of early 90s Pizza Hut. The sit-down locations, the sundae bar, the Pacman machines.
I really miss it.
