"how do we deal with the worst folks on the right" is a bit and complicated question. But I think the way I spend my days is a clue to what I think the answer is. Folks need a LOT of political education and guidance. Folks don't understand the systems that are screwing them.

They get frustrated and decide they should be king because the whole of theory is their kingdom and it's backing them up.

Which is paradoxical since the left-right spectrum was originally all about distribution of the powers of the king.

Must be a human thing cause it seems the same on the right.

This is a large part of why I distanced myself from the left politically and just describe my political stance as "leave me the fuck alone". Too much of it has been overtaken by people who'd rather waste their time screaming at their own and sneering at the working class.

I don't find that to be the case in real life. The actual socialists/anarchists/union types I know tend to be excellent, down to earth people, who have no problem each other, and I've organized with them in the past to good effect.

In person is definitely very different from online spaces. I'm willing to bet a lot of the keyboard warriors we see acting out wouldn't be so bold in person. The internet just happens to be a cesspool where the shit floats to the top unfortunately.

Misplaced moral superiority is a pitfall that even progressives (as a whole) can’t avoid. And, like, given the number of leftist/progressive women that have complained about creeps in their communities, well, it’s clear that being on the left doesn’t magically make one good or moral.

to be fair, I don't think it's reasonable to call Liberals "leftists" even in Canada. However, you're right, actual leftists are just as bad. I wound up banned from most of the socialist spaces on reddit over the years for, eg, suggesting that even socialists should participate in electoral politics

yep. While also tearing apart Singh, who - while I often didn't agree with where he took the NDP - is probably the politician who's done the most to materially benefit the average canadian in the last ten years. We're not in a better place than we were last month.

Exactly my thoughts. He was not a good political leader, but achieved more significant policy gains than any NDP leader.

But he is still at least partially to blame for their collapse. You can discuss the nuance of the situation but the fact is over his tenure they went from 50 to 7 seven seats.
