my strava numbers for altitude this year seemed inflated, so i checked a hike i did with a buddy who has a garmin. we did the same exact route. my elevation gain according to the apple watch ultra was 719 feet. his was 387.
anybody had any success calibrating an apple watch's elevation recording?

Apple is almost there, but not yet, my problem with it is that they’ve been “almost there” for years 😭
(I'm pretty sure the apple watch is using GPS to measure altitude, I don't think it has a barometric sensor)
Previous (old) garmin had no altitude meter. So run a loop, no elevation change.
New (current) garmin has one, it's nice ... but inaccurate. I run for five miles, start from house, end at my house and apparently the planet has gained/lost 20 feet. Sigh.
Models without the barometric pressure gauge use GPS, which I find to actually be worse
Apple watch I'm nearly certain uses GPS
