Same but "only" for music and movies (including, I shit you not, PORN movies) but not for videogames, It felt like a still unexplored country and everybody was invited to be and explorer of the brave new worlds opening in front of us...
It didn't last long but It was great as long as It did.

Well, I think the context is a little different when compared to the current mediascape. You can watch and play things from 30 years ago way more easily today than in 2001. You'll even be more aware of things from 30 years ago with several youtube channels telling you about those things.
