Are Democratic leaders making cities more dangerous than Republicans? Trump + others have repeatedly made claims like this. New paper in Science Advances w/ @chriswarshaw.bsky.social, Dan Jones & Matt Harvey shows that, in short, the answer is no.

I'm NOT one bit surprised the answer is "no!" Actually, I've known this for quite some time now... Also, Red States have more violent crime than Blue States per capita!!
Of course Trump was lying about crime statistics & where the majority of crime occurs!! Trump lies like a rug about everything!!
This is because police are corrupt everywhere and mayors have no control or say in the matter. Police “unions” protect police budgets. It’s time for cops to have their own personal liability insurance. #ACAB
The American voters, largely incapable of reading or writing or comprehending an English paragraph or essay, are immune from being educated about facts.
What a fucking stupid question. Of course it’s NO. Republicans control the narrative and the rudderless democrats scramble. “They eat children!”
“No we don’t eat children”. Don’t even address the accusation. Dont blame climate change. Just blame them. Democrats need a PR firm.
Actual investing in public education? Pushing agenda that actually invest in people instead of states trying to advertise to businesses that their residents are exploitative labor.

People who don’t go to cities are often fearful and while smash and grab crime is a real thing, cities never seemed more dangerous to me. I’ve lived in rural America-drugs, child abuse, fraud, murder, kidnapping and all in these low pop, rural spread out towns.
Leaders on both sides of the aisle have said that Democrats need to change their approach on crime–often pointing to elections where progressive politicians have been unseated after widespread frustration with their handling of crime https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/08/us/california-crime-election.html
Implicit in this argument is that Democratic leaders are making crime worse, and Republicans would make it better. That's a causal question, and exactly what we wanted to answer. Our results show that Dems are no worse OR better at reducing crime than Reps https://www.science.org/doi/full/10.1126/sciadv.adq8052
Ideological claims from both sides of the aisle about crime and policing aren't facing the facts: what's happening in cities across the country has little to do with partisanship. Reducing crime should focus on evidence-backed strategies rather than partisan finger-pointing.

Challenging their "conventional wisdom" with facts doeswork. Humor doesn't work.

I’ve never seen a “progressive” policy on crime be enacted anywhere.
