Had a bus driver who would call the main streets while driving.

Another would sing popular songs. He had a great voice.

When I got off by the front door, I'd say thanks and have a nice day.

I also did the same in Florida as a teen and they would tell me that nobody ever thanked them before...

Any city we are in the bus is our go to.
Before Jan20 we spent plenty of time in Orlando and Las Vegas (though not on the Deuce) and 50% of riders thanked the driver, maybe more.
Just saying we Canadians have not cornered the market on this.

Yeah, my experience is that it's kind of a coastal phenomenon. Victoria and Vancouver passengers thank the driver; Halifax too. But Winnipeg?

Thank a Winnipeg driver and he'll shoot you a look like "what's the game never mind I don't wanna know I ain't playing anyway now get off my damn bus chump."

When I moved to Canada there was this TV ad on every night that encouraged people to be kind even when they were in a bad mood and I felt like, yes I am definitely in Canada now. Love it here so much!

I've personally seen this, and when I used to use transit, it was a very common practice to thank the driver for getting us passengers from Point A to Point B safely.

Good manners are a vital social lubricant. Smooths out spots that might chafe or irritate. You don't have to actually BE thankful, you just have to say it and be pleasant. It's like saying sorry.... it's arguably more important to say it than it is to mean it. That's how I raised my son. 😊💖🍁

We are supposed to exit the rear door unless you physically need the front kneeling down exit or ramp. So there’s basically lots of shouting thanks at every stop

It depends…some of the streetcar drivers are walled off completely and ignore customers…I guess they got attacked in the past and now don’t want to even look at anyone.
Others are extremely friendly and chatty.
I do try; but it varies a lot.

I said thanks to the bus driver in TO all the time. Used to thank the streetcar driver but with new cars they are locked away making it difficult to interact.
