Please stop with the AI comments. This is a real bird. And it's not SO out of the ordinary that it's outside the realm of possibility. Just rather special. Do a little research. You have this amazing device in your hand that can find info instantly.
I pity the nature videographers, their talent is accused as AI by people who can't even tell what is AI and what is real.
Some labeler here in Bluesky is even accusing real artists as AI or used AI in some form. π€¦π½ Even my raw amateur photos are accused of AI. π€·π½
Rescinding previous claim. After extensive research, it appears to be a genuine video.
This particular video has been called into question MULTIPLE times before, even upwards of one year ago. It's been something of a fire starter for months
NOT rescinding my vitriolic statement of fuck AI though
3. As many users pointed out, birds do not generally fly with their wings awkwardly above their head. And the feet are blurry for such a HD video. Compare that to the long feet found in the actual footage in the links above and you'll see this is not how they fly. With feet tucked up.
Original source unverifiable. Been searching. A few users claimed to be the original, however comparing known actual footage to this seems to yield suspicious results
Honestly, having looked at other videos of this bird, Iβm even more convinced now that this one is AI.
- The head, eye, and beak shape are wrong once the angle changes
- Birds this size donβt _glide_, they flap constantly
- Nobody Else has footage like this, following the bird in flight so closely
Dead ends. My research lasted about an hour which was not sufficient for an exact diagnosis. Information is limited and there were users who somewhat believably claimed to be the owner. I'm getting back onboard the "its ai" train
AI of birds can be vert convincing. Last year I was looking for a picture of a Hawaiian white tern (manu-o-KΕ«) to send to a friend. The first (and best) was this AI.
Recently, I was searching for a Jaguar. And most every result was ai. A real Jaguar was hard to find.
In the future, I bet people will only see ai. When they go to a zoo, they'll be surprised when the animal doesn't look exactly like the ai they are used to
You can pause and unpause to see the artifacts that get smoothed by ai. Also the more the video goes, the different everything looks. They made this by sampling a real photo, maybe even multiple.
I think it creates a really cool effect, and out of context people would think is innovative and fun.
It's heavily on YT, but I think you can spot the offenders and refuse to watch their videos. I always do and refuse to interact with anyone promoting AI
off the top of my head, channels on youtube that are not AI Club Random, Meidas Touch, Joe Rogan, Theo Von, Tim Dillon, 83 Weeks, Story Time with Dutch Mantell, David Pakman, Young Turks, Brisco and Bradshaw, Andrew Yang, Jim Cornette, State Of The Scene, Tucker Carlson Network, Shawn Ryan Show, WWE
I don't watch any of those. Mostly I watch obscure channels about random subjects, but there's a lot of them that use AI art, AI generated narration. Lots of big channels the comments section is full of AI bots. Lots of nature vids are AI generated now
yes the bird is real but they either took film of the bird and "enhanced" it with AI, or else they just told the AI to generate this image of the bird flying. TONS of stuff on the internet is AI now and it's getting harder and harder to tell. Best to just go outside if you want to see nature
You can just put in your message that it is made with AI. That would be fair.
I donβt like it when posters lie to me about a picture.
For me, it means that I block such pages/ accounts.
I've never seen one of those. Looks like an angel! Thanks for sharing that beautiful bird in flight. It seems to move through the air with very little effort.
You should see the chicks. They line up on a tree branch and practice falling/flying. Itβs called enaga dango, and looks like the Japanese sweet with the same name. Both are cavity inducing.
The video is AI, but it was built off the foundation of a still image that is actually real. Why people don't just post that image instead is... profoundly stupid to me.
I'm not saying this is real, & I don't have the knowledge, or desire to break this vid down. But with a good updraft a bird with wings folded in like this could easily stay aloft. Also living creatures know how to use wings & wind, unlike inanimate objects.
Oh yeah watching living things fly, you can clearly see they "feel" the air and adapt to it. I mean even we as humans when we pilot a vehicle, that vehicle becomes an extension of our body and we feel it's parts like it's our body parts, and we feel the environment with it
The video was made from a still image that can easily be found online. It's one of the first that pops up if you look up the bird.
While I do agree that some remarkable work has been accomplished by incredibly talented photogs and videogs, it's imperative we separate those efforts from AI.
Honestly I was pretty convinced it was AI, but I found this video with footage of them that's definitely not ai, and they do do this wings close in dive when taking off, two flaps and then tuck wings, and while not as close up nor slow mo, it seems plausibly not AI in OP
No this is not the shadow, the morphology of the beak changes from a short pointed cone shape (like the one of the real bird) to a flat elongated unnatural shape. And that is just one of the conspicuous points
It is obviously an AI video created from the real photo in the first frame.

And keep AI the FUCK off of Blusky. Don't make this into Twitter

Back on the "its ai" train. Bear with me
1. No verified source exists for the video. Several popular posts ask for the photographer to come forward

I'm glad you shared this experience.

We donβt have this crazy of a closeup, apart from that mid-flight photo.
Whatβs wrong with the video that came out of it?

Really beginning to hate this cr@p.
It is and wow.
Lucky Japan.

But there's no real way to use AI ethically as it's based on stolen work, and that's wrong.
I'm sure you're a good person who wants to do the right thing.
Rather support the actual photographer than rando fake video.

Not a fairy.
Not a fairy bird.
Just more AI crap.
