8 years ago today, Anthony Rizzo led the Chicago Cubs into Wrigley Field holding the World Series trophy. The Cubs raised the 2016 World Series banner this night. π

I remember it was a glorious night!! As a 2nd gen cubbie fan. The whole family was texting and crying and we have now gone into the 3rd and 4th generations π₯°π₯°π₯°
I am a lifetime Cubs fan,my dad used to own the hotdog stand across the street from Wrigley Field, place was called Franksville. Such great memories going to the games every day during the summer.
I worked in Wrigleyville from the 2016-2018 seasons. The world was unified and the city was on a high for a week when the Cubbies won the World Series; and it turned into what felt like a ghost town once π was elected. I still remember the smell and feel of all the chalk on the stadium perimeter.
The curse of the goat moved on to the entire country. All this crap we're experiencing now is the Cubbies' fault! We were happy being miserable Cub fans. We had hope...wait till next year. We're now fighting for our lives on a daily basis.
Winning the WS was fantastic, but when the Ricketts decided they needed to go to the WH a second time, that was the beginning of the end of my baseball fandom.
Every country has domestic sports leagues with teams filled with players from all over the World. Only the USA calls their DOMESTIC sporting events World
Yes it is. In the UK Soccer Premier League we have players from all over the world but we are not arrogant enough to call it the World Premier League. The FIFA World Cup has teams from countries of the World with players from that country. Same with the Rugby World Cup or any World sporting event
Nation wide anti-Trump demonstrations planned for April 19 in all 50 states; 50501 is organizing another nationwide demonstration on April 19th. 50501 movement check for a location near you! Pass the word! show up and turn out for your future! April 19 letβs roll!
I've been a Cubbies fan for as long as I can remember...even though I've never lived in Chicago or Illinois. I stayed loyal through thick and thin, but I didn't think I'd live to see that day in 2016!!
That was the last time I watched MLB and the absolute self-inflicted idiotic baseball franchise then known as the Cleveland Indians, oh the pain of losing that World Series being up 3-1 and up in Game 5 only to have Francona take his foot of your throats, anyways, Happy you broke that goat curseβπΌ
The only way to STOP trump MAGA GOP dictatorship, is to Vote for a fully control Democrat congress (House and Senate) on November 3, 2026, sadly Americans don't vote in midterm elections. How can America ever be a government of the people, when the people themselves donβt vote on every election day?
As a Tribe fan, you all conspired with the Yankees and bought Aroldis Chapman just for the playoffs/series, and that is why Cubs won. Without Chapman you lose. Then he went right back to the Yanks. Rich teams cheat to win, CLE does it the right way.
Just because they sucked at spending money. Look at the 10mill Cubs paid Chapman for a handful of appearances. 15% of CLE total budget. If CLE had Cubs budget, no other team would ever win a series. You are all spoiled baseball brats and think its a level field.
My dad, one of the most faithful Cubby fans, died in 1997 before Chicago brought home the prize.
Every season he loved watching every play, every strike, every out.
I took the headline out to his grave sight and let him know Cubbies finally did it again. I'm sure he was smiling from somewhere.
I won both my fantasy leagues that year, retired from fantasy, and as far as I'm concerned no baseball has occurred since. Games attended since were just nice backgrounds for hanging with friends.
Do any teams outside the US play for the trophy? Asking for a friend. BTW congratulations to the Cubs. I went to the Field when I lived in the US in 1992 and sat in the bleachers, a fantastic experience π
On that day, the Cubs beat Cleveland and officially passed us the baton of βlongest time w/o a World Series titleβ. 77 years and counting! Weβll likely break your record. Sigh.
Cub games were always the place my dad & I treasured. He joked that he could die once the Cubs won the World Series, but then he did pass in 2019. To this day, our trips to Wrigley are some of my most precious memories.

Long night, told to be there early due to all the festivities. Cool and rainy, naturally went into extras.
Park emptied and we moved down to the box seats, about 10 rows behind where Ricketts' seats are.
And we flew the W!
Go Cubs Go
Ready to do it again!!! πβΎοΈπ
I love baseball, but I hate baseball players.
it's not as stupid as it sounds
I don't care how they bring Rizzo back - coach or player.
Just bring him back.
Now get rid of those ugly powder-blue things. One home uniform is enough, thank you.

Don't get me wrong, I understand and appreciate the long suffering of Cubs fans.
Now we have the sad record.
Every season he loved watching every play, every strike, every out.
I took the headline out to his grave sight and let him know Cubbies finally did it again. I'm sure he was smiling from somewhere.
It wasnβt a thunderstorm that nightβ¦
Every 108 years
-The Cleveland Indians
(another thing the world laughs at USA about) π€£π€£
πΆDo they still play the blues in Chicago...π΅
Congratulations again
but *sigh* again
