I remember that bill and the collaboration between Senators Ted Kennedy and John McCain. I don’t remember the Mexican flag incidents and their impact. Thanks for the timely reminder.

I have a position that earns me the wrath of both the right & the left. As much as I'm apposed to what Trump is doing, I think it isn't normal for a country to let in so many illegal immigrants & tolerate them. I think the rise of the far right globally is partly linked to mass/illegal immigration.

I bring up this history a lot! It was Republican led and scuttled by Republicans. It is the aggrieved party’s issue to solve but as last summer’s new immigration bill demonstrates, that party would rather run on it staying an issue and not solving it legislatively.
