The end of an era for @postopinions.bsky.social (but not quite yet). Please read this column from Colby King: www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

What does Tucker Carlson have against cats?

For months, Trump was urging Israel not to attack Iran and to give his diplomatic efforts a chance to work. How quickly we transitioned, in just a few days, to Trump’s bellicose social media posts on Tuesday ("UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!”). Now Trump is contemplating bombing Iran. bit.ly/43NmSdg

It should have occurred to the president that his aggressive sweeps of places where large numbers of undocumented people work were going to be somewhat inconvenient for many employers, @ktumulty.bsky.social writes. "But no, that apparently didn’t dawn on him until complaints started coming in."

The #s tell the story: In March, 4,550 defendants were charged with immigration offenses in federal court — a 36.6 percent jump from February’s figure. But over the six months preceding the end of March, only five employers faced criminal charges. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

"Therein lies the paradox and the incoherence that have long existed in this country’s immigration policy." www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

I for one welcome our refrigerator overlords and believe they have come to us with only good intentions...

Most of the stories date Trump's desire for a military parade to the Bastille Day one he saw in Paris in 2017. It goes further back than that. In an interview I did with him before his inauguration that year, I asked how America would know it was "great again":

As Democrats seek a way out of the wilderness, they should be paying attention to what just happened — and is about to happen — in a blue state that swung sharply to the right in last year’s presidential race, @ktumulty.bsky.social writes. wapo.st/4kURIq6

“I truly believe ... that the front line of the battle is in the states, that it’s truly in the states where we need to stand up for people. We need to provide effective governance for people, especially in the wake of the chaos from Washington.” www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

With Mikie Sherrill's victory in NJ last night, I'm re-upping this column I wrote last November: www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

In 06, the president was GW Bush, an ardent supporter of immigration reform. I'm even old enough to have covered the massive immigration bill that Ronald Reagan signed in 1986, which gave amnesty to millions. If you don't care to know what I've learned through all this, feel free to unfollow me

Found this in a Time cover story I wrote in 2006. The Republican Senate was actually moving toward passing a comprehensive immigration reform bill that included tighter border security but also legalization for the undocumented. Then protesters started waving Mexican flags.:

Is anyone else ready to call for a moratorium on referring to ridiculous behavior as “Real Housewives of [Fill in the Blank City]”?

If this were two women, guys like him would be calling it a "catfight."

President Trump and GOP leaders in Congress are preparing to trample the power of judges who stand in their way. But to find this blueprint, you have to dig 500+ pages into the "One Big Beautiful Bill." Pretty ugly. Column by @ktumulty.bsky.social www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

I for one hope the ridicule doesn’t deter him from continuing to chicken out.
