But I don’t think it had anything to do with trump “refusing.” I’ve covered a lot of presidential events and have only been refused an ability to exit when there is a security issue.

My understand was there was only one major entrance for people getting in and out, which was poor planning

Reported by whom? I don't believe that was the observation of our reporters, and I know of journalists who left during the parade because they had to file.

Also, an odd coincidence about these two former roommates: Sherrill grew up mostly in Virginia, where Spanberger is leading the field for governor; Spanberger grew up in New Jersey, where vice versa.

I have covered immigration closely for decades. If people don't care to know what I've picked up along the way, they should feel free to unfollow me. But I don't think I should be expected to indulge people who turn to personal insults.

This is how Republicans used to view immigration reform. Honestly, it helps to know some history, and I covered that history closely. If you don't care to know it, feel free to unfollow me:

This is the way Republicans used to talk about immigration reform. Also from that cover story.:

The imagery from those protests made a real difference, at a delicate time when the House was going one way and the Senate another (as I explored in my cover story). Anyone who was following the issue closely can tell you that.

In 06, the president was GW Bush, an ardent supporter of immigration reform. I'm even old enough to have covered the massive immigration bill that Ronald Reagan signed in 1986, which gave amnesty to millions. If you don't care to know what I've learned through all this, feel free to unfollow me.

The history of this issue seems to repeat itself over and over again. Also from that story:

I bring it up now because it is worth paying attention to what the history of this issue, which seems to repeat itself over and over, can tell us.

Not just Congress. There was a real public backlash to the images people were seeing of the protesters.
