I'd like to share with y'all a project I've poured my heart and soul into over the last couple of years: a database cataloguing every single older (pre-21st century) LGBT science fiction book I've managed to track down - currently just over 200 titles π

"A Civil Campaign" (1999) heavily features a post-op transmasc character. Transitioned for non-dysphoria reasons. Initially transphobic reception, but fully integrated and in a relationship by the end
I JUST woke up so if I sound
(Can't wait to look through this!)
C. J. Cherryh for example has a matriarchal lion-like society in her Chanur novels (and she also is married to a woman). And Heinlein's Lazarus Long books has a trans woman character.
I'm sure if I scratch my brain I can remember more.
(Man, I wish I had all my 90s books still, I could've gone through my entire library to jog my memory...oh well...)
One writer you seem to be missing is Elizabeth A. Lynn.
Her novel "A different Light" had a gay couple.
Not sure if "The Sardonyx Net" qualifies. It's complex and the m/m relationship is non-con (one of the characters is a slave and the other a sexual sadist).
I've noticed when looking at the list on firefox there's no intended(?)* way to scroll horizontally to see beyond the representation column- it'd be a shame if more people couldn't appreciate more of it!

I think she writes often about quackers, but is mormon (?). Honestly, I'm shaky with the religious details here, as I'm European and from an entirely secular family.
The Heritage of Hastur and Hastur Lord (bi/gay MCs)
Thendara House (bi/lesbian MCs)
Hawkmisstess (gay side character)
Others at least mention gay characters, especially the books dealing with the Sisterhood.
Does this ring a bell?

Add Rachel Pollackβs novels (Unquenchable Fire, etc), as well.
Perhaps also Lark on the Wing by Nancy Springer
I have a trouble drawing a hard line between genres. For example, many of Russ & Delaneyβs books are fantastical but they take place on other planets
