Including the detail “elderly patron” ranks right up there with the reporting that states the alleged shooter was his HS valedictorian. MSM continues to struggle w/sticking to relevant and meaningful facts of actual importance.
He f’d up. NEVER go into a McDonalds in the morning when you are a fugitive and security camera footage of you is all over mainstream media and the internet.
On any given morning, your typical McDonalds is filled with old people gossiping, and just looking for something to do.
The most sickening thing about this entire story is how quickly the LEO jumped to investigating and making this national news while hundreds are murdered but because they are poor, nobody cares…
Exactly the story I was thinking about when I wrote what I did. I want the national spotlight on this. Not some CEO worth millions who was only worried about shareholders and not the lives of those he was sacrificing at the altar of corporatism.
Agreed. It is time for the mythologising to end, and wait for the facts to arrive.
A cloaked man killing a villain is a classic vigilante-hero. The actual person behind it may not live up to the expectations of a Batman or Robin Hood.
He had the (presumed) murder weapon still on his person?! At McDonalds?! This criminal mastermind wasn’t going to last long. Surprised he made it a day 😆
Turns out that characterization was wrong. It was not a “patron” but an employee. Great fact-checking, Times. And what difference would the gender make? Totally gratuitous and wrong. Go back to journalism school.
Next time, after you do the deed, do the following:
1. Shave your hair off.
2. Wear a wig.
3. Wear a fake moustache.
4. Wear white patent leather shoes.
5. Wear clothes from a thrift store that are reminiscent of the 70s disco era.
The guy had the gun, the fake ID, his real ID, and a manifesto. He WANTED to get caught. He probably stared at the other patron and pulled his mask on and off, while pointing to a newspaper photo.
Hmmmm, what constitutes elderly in this case? And how is that relevant to the story? Would they have said “middle-aged” or “Gen-Z.” Just an odd, random ambiguous modifier the way that it’s used in the story.
As I have warned. Getting old sucks & if you are 65+ & are in a situation where the press has to include you in a story, you WILL be referred to as elderly.
I don’t know if it sucks (though yeh my arthritis asks for a word) but journalistically speaking, I found that word annoying. I rolled my eyes and thought, “yeh, ‘elderly’ is probably 65 to this reporter.”
No matter how much the media tries to turn this into the OJ Ford Bronco chase... It's just not that interesting.🥱
Whether you think he's Robyn Hood, a criminal, or shades in between, it's just filling the 24hr cycle.
It's not like a country's leader was deposed in the last 24 hours or so.
Gonna be real funny when it comes out that it wasn't him. 😂 But hey CEOs can sleep easy tonight because the beautiful police caught the bad guy and they can once again deny coverage without fear. 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
You can find ‘em at gas stations and fast food joints across the nation: the old guys’ breakfast club. They make a coffee last 2 hours and talk about everything.
This guy can’t be normalized—no matter how justified his cause, he murdered someone when he should have been directing his ire toward the source of the health insurance problem, not an individual.
Baby boomers have benefited from the Higher Education Act, retirement plans and home ownership, while many millennials have missed out.
Millennials face private education costs 300 percent higher than boomers did, and around 1 in 10 millennials carries student loan debt in the six-figure range.
Boomers, (partic white male boomers) have most of the power in this country. The mean age in congress is 64 years.
They think nothing of future generations, and are leaving a mess of a world to Gen X/Millenials to clean, but still haven't handed the reign so future generations can even start.
Still a bigoted, ageist belief. The left "prides" itself on fighting for civil rights but has its own bigotries.
Such prejudice undermines any argument that it fights for equality; no, the left, no less than the right, argues its own self-righteous, bigoted, resentful, bitterness view of enemies.
So... we are to believe that this person who avoided a police dragnet in New York and successfully left the state *SOMEHOW* slipped up and gave vital information to a senior citizen in a McDonald's that led police to take them into custody for questioning?
From reporting on the arrest, it sounds like it was less about the fact that he matched the description/appearance of the suspect and more the fact that he was somehow stupid enough to have retained evidence of the crime...and people were calling him a professional?
Also, pro-trip: if you’re going to crime, don’t carry around the same ID you used when you stayed in the area —in this case, the hostel—around the time of the crime!
Also, I just went through his twitter. Before it gets taken down, he’s a followers of right-wingers, 4 Chan memes, all of that. Peter Theil, here’s his review of the Unibomber & a Twitter post (1 of many)
The man identified as Mangione does look like the shooter. The guy decries big corporations but was arrested having a meal at McDonald’s. The man arrested has no alibi for where he was Thursday at the time of the shooting.

Bluesky has a problem with leftists just as much as Twitter has with the far-right.

Why would he need to show ID at a McDonald’s?
How would McDonald’s staff/customers know the ID was fake?
Did his ID picture look like this?
The initial reporting made it sound like he was carded at a McDonald’s and that the fake ID was why he was suspicious.
Now the police are reporting that someone turned him in which makes more sense.
thats why you pay these people
Odd!

Nope. Not a chance.
That would be Breaking Bad levels of dumb. 👀
Damn every white doctor is getting the cops called on them with this one.
Keep repeating what you've written, and it becomes no more profound or true the 10th time than it was the first.

Do I have that right?
