So every Canadian will need to adjust their livesβ¦ meanwhile, sending celebrities into space for no reason has a larger carbon footprint than anyoneβs entire life
You do realize that was Bezos on Blue Origin, right? Everyone can do little things that taken together make big changes. No one is asking you to give up everything, just do your small part.
Dear PM Carney: I'm on board with your thinking! Have been for decades. I'm in TwilightZone America now.
My maternal grandparents were both born in Canada. Any way that you might consider letting me back in?
Blessings to you on your new endeavor in life, and from
a mari usque ad mare!
Oh, I know. I just don't think he's going to have the same climate stance as PMJT. He sure doesn't seen to be talking much about it but I know I heard promises about pipelines and that pisses me right off. The oil doesn't belong to taxpayers so why do we continually have to pay? I'm so sick of it.
He's talked more about renewables than PMJT did. He's, also, acknowledged the transition period, part of which involves oil and gas, which *bugs* me, too. I think the point is in expediency.
To your point - his stance on climate, his role as UN Special Envoy on Climate Finance gives me confidence he knows what he's talking about. He has a global vision, and that is very good for this issue. That gives him real life been-there-checked-it-out experience on what is working and what isn't.
That's the point of his plan, we won't pay for it. A portion of the profits will benefit social programs and piplines would be financed through private investments, not from government coffers. That's what I understood, but I'm not a finance expert. Maybe someone with a better grasp can join in?
A pipeline line would reduce so much Carbon emissions. The transportation of the O&G creats a lot of Carbon emissions. A well maintained pipeline creats negligible emissions.
EU, UK and some South Asian countries are implementing the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism which adds tariffs based on a country's carbon emissions.
Reducing emissions & carbon taxing makes our exports more attractive to these countries.
Will watch with interest, thanks. My original question was genuine and pertinent, not polemical. Appreciate the constructive and informed reply. Time to stop chasing unicorns with unobtainium and consider some viable possible approaches that donβt pretend money grows on trees. Maybe this is one.
And it also told the German and Japanese govts βthere was no business caseβ for selling them LNG. That was egregious but I could go on. All I will say about the previous govt is that itβs record shows it takes far too long to do too little in π¨π¦, whether innovative or traditional. We must do better.
Additionally, China has large scale green energy requirements for trade with them, and considering they're where a load of the oil that was going to the US is going now, keeping up green initiatives and not doing this carbon capture crap is the best way to keep them buying.
I want you to know i know another Canadian w your name who is a batshit insane q-anon maga maple. I had to check your profile because I was like no way heβs on Bluesky.
Did I say I thought that? Carney has said we need to spend hugely to cope with the costs of Trumps war against our economy. Our growth rate is already the worst in the G7 as is our productivity. Now to also chase net zero, where will all the money come from? I didnβt mention energy, you did. Decoy.
So why hasnβt that been working the last ten years? Why is our economy doing so badly? Who has been in office? Simplistic answer from someone who doesnβt know π¨π¦ and wonβt use her full name. Thatβs all the time I have for this dead end, jump to conclusions on someone else.
Canada should play to its strength, which is its abundance of needed natural resources. If Canada cannot get its oil and gas to Europe and Asia, itβs scoring an own goal. Remember that natural gas sells for 10x in Europe was it sells for in North America. Itβs a mistake to not close the arbitrage.
All the more reason other countries like Canada, must now pick up the slack and do whatever we can to deal with climate change. The US is about to add to the problem in leaps and bounds. Many Americans will lose everything, even their lives allowing Trump and his criminal syndicate to continue.
He was the UN Special Envoy on Climate Change and Finance so Iβve been waiting for this. And his wife also works in the field - see her bio below. I imagine they have the experience and connections to make this happen
Pipelines would save a lot of Carbon emissions being put into the atmosphere. Right now we use Trains, Trucks, and Ships which all use fuel to move the resource. A national pipeline would cut all that emission from being created.
I feel like the Libs are very aligned with some Green and NDP initiatives. If he canβt make 3 of them cross the floor, I still think they will support the Liberals even more now. Itβs going to be a strong minority government.
I think if some NDP cross the floor, itβs going to message a lack of confidence swirling in their party. Tactically, I also think they should seize on the position of power they have and exert some influence to get electoral reform as a priority.
Thatβs the smartest and most likely move, but I wonder if there is a way back any time soon given this new political climate we find ourselves in? We seem to be inching towards to a 2-party system at the moment. Depending on personal political aspirations, there might be some interest there.
The NDP has been here before. And they have quite a machine. As long as they want to build back, they can. My feeling is that two strong parties is temporary. I think this is mostly a trump response.
Itβs the greens that I think are done, but Iβd like to keep May.
This is definitely a Trump response, but as long as sovereignty is on the table, and the Cons stay in MAGA mode, it will create that 2-party issue. Never before this election have I seen such a focus on strategic voting.
I really hope when they build houses they think about grey water recycling systems, maybe even district heating from local industry. All of these things are high upfront costs but are long term investments in the environment that pay off ten fold.
Pipelines save so much Carbon from being emitted. Instead of transporting the oil by Truck, Train, and Ship which use fuel that emits Carbon, a pipeline uses physics.
Ships? Pipeline under the ocean? You have to remember the amount of carbon producing any of those means of transport. Mining of minerals, factories producing products, it's not just as simple as less trucks. We forget what it takes just to gather the raw materials in production, not just the end.
So you want Canada to shut down all resource extraction and see our economy Crash. Which would be an invitation for the Trump MAGAts to invade & Annex Canada.
I'm glad we have Prime Minister Carney as our head of state. We showed the world we're #CanadaStrong and will continue to be. It won't be an easy path but we're moving Canada forward into the 21st century instead of backwards like the US. I'm so proud to be Canadian π¨π¦

I grew up at the alter Climate Changeβ’οΈ. The adults in our community shamed us kids if we didnβt conform to their narrative. They created the problem, then burdened us with the guilt. We were told to live in fear, not joy, and to strictly follow their rules. We have religious trauma.

Also, the Liberal gov't built the Trans Mountain Pipeline (TMX) from AB to BC which twinned the first, tripling capacity.
And Liberal gov't built the first LNG port in Kitimat, B.C. with a proposed phase 2 and 7 others under various stages of approvals & development.

Canada's GDP growth is at the top of the G7.
"productivity" means workers are making more $ per unit of product.
Our economy is doing good.
Have you read up on the latest toxic reports on all makes and usage of plastics? Chilling.

If you decide your house is not on fire and then it catches fire would you just ignore it?
So proud to be Canadian right now.
Carney is the opposite of Dumb Donald in every way.
Smart & ethical. So glad he won.

Is that right?
