I'm a lawyer AND a former adjunct US gov't teacher. I basically walk around saying "Nope, can't do that" all the time these days. And then fail to be shocked when they do whatever it is because apparently we can't stop anything now.
I like to think I do. But having done several oral arguments, it’s a whole different ball game when you are behind that podium. But the arguments are just show. These people have their minds made up.
Daughter of lawyers here: they shout out better responses, repeat them aloud during TV coverage, and raise their hands to heaven insisting: I could win this case!
Thanks for the info. I have no interest. I found it surprising that there are people who can remain attentive to court proceedings, but perhaps it’s more interesting for attorneys. (I’d still be waiting for someone to explain it to me afterwards.)
I mean...once you can hear the tone of Alito, Kavanaugh, Gorsuch, Thomas...you will never have any confusion about how they act based on their desired outcome not the law again. I think anyone enjoying say Succession would scotus args just as riveting. And they...really are going to happen to you!
I understand their impact, but I often can pick up their tone in their written opinions without issue. They’re not exactly subtle in their writing either. 😅
It’s the finer points of law that elude me, so again I prefer to read a few explanations and analyses from various legal scholars.

Umm, noooo. Why do you ask? Did someone hear me?
Better questions, too.

I’m not allowed to watch SVU with her anymore.
I’m just reading what happens and hoping someone will explain it well enough that I can follow along. 😅
