Parliament being prorogued has zero bearing on this story. This contract would not have come up for a vote. Why CBC chose to put that in the headline and the story itself is beyond me, and is frankly just trying to create unnecessary drama.

Agreed. We knew literally years ago the British design had been selected and the design was being modded to fit Cdn requirements. Not sure what CBC has been up to lately.. Are they trying to prove their worth to Angry Pierre?
Exactly the reason why I won't be watching CBC coverage of the Leadership Race results tonight. I don't need, nor to I want to hear Rosie Barton's opinion on Mark Carney or her opinion on anything for that matter.
The headline is proof they don't know what can and cannot be done during a prorogation. Many of our media in this country have become lazy and only care about clicks, not actually telling the news without spin.
These ships are years out but they will be needed. 22 billion for 3 with 12 more behind it and 12 submarines with that plus a whole other host of procurement. People are going to have to get used to big numbers but its what we need to do right now.
The subs will be interesting, there are not a lot of places to make these. I am pulling for Sweden as they would be amenable to joint production and sourcing. MInd you I maybe a little biased though.
Ukraine shows that for a minuscule sum of money, these ships can be sunk. It’s like investing in horses even after tanks have shown their effectiveness on the battlefield. These ships are a waste of money.
I have very serious concerns about the people in charge at CBC of framing/editing/programming. There are lots of great people & lots of great programming at CBC, but also a clear *pattern* of this kind of clickbaity/misleading stuff that is noticeable & worrying.
Glad to see it signed. In the interim, we should be out there buying some off-the-shelf surplus vessels from our allies, other than the former one, the #UnitedStates.
I wonder if universities are still teaching journalism students that they have to "other side" every story to pretend they are objective, when being objective actually means reporting facts as they are.
It's annoying and frustrating. The CBC posted other stories with strange titles.
The Editor in Chief's total failure to even understand the problem was deeply upsetting, because I predict many more failures to meet the moment due to that.
There must be a way to hold a public broadcaster accountable. I keep writing to the ombudsman, but they seem to have pretty much no influence whatsoever. I wonder what’s the next step.
I’d rather see the issues addressed than giving in to the “defund” crowd.
Absolutely! I have adored the CBC since I was a child. It certainly must remain our national public broadcaster. Maybe the producers of some of these shows are suffering from youth and inexperience. I don’t really get it.
I had to address a major issue with “CBC Kids” online about a month ago regarding the “51st state” business. The young producer who seemed rather ignorant did write me back a rather vapid explanation. I told her she should read the reasoning behind the establishment of the CBC in 1936.
This addiction to drama, if not outright misinformation to foment conflict, is why I am so very disappointed in the CBC. It should be a basic requirement that the CBC explain how our governments actually work.
Oh, I do agree the headline & article is misleading and factually inaccurate and they should be held to account. At the same time the journalist is a reliable and not a "fake news" guy. I was just pointing that out. You can get it wrong and be corrected & doesn't equate to egregious political bias.
We need to keep shipbuilders in business and skilled tradespersons employed. In fact we need the workforce to expand to deliver more boats more quickly.

That’s just the way they do things.

A question I have about maybe every 2nd article written.
Often its both...
