No, thank you! Absolutely nothing against Canada! Lake Michigan water is treated for consumption. Plus, my fridge also has a purified filter. I've been drinking Lake Michigan water all my life (72). Still here!
I don't know, the majority of WI and MI voters are apparently fine without potable water or civil rights. . . .
(No shade. I live in Louisiana. We're even less deserving. But people keep assuring me that if a state voted red, every person in that state is responsible and deserves to suffer.)
While i agree with you that Canada is better for our lakes than Trump. Canada is not exactly a Saint. They need to stop sending their trash to Michigan because it's cheaper and close Line 5.
I wouldn't say so much as free, because it's included in your taxes, however, everyone has it regardless if they're employed or not and that's way better than here.
We could always shrink the federal government and shift the balance of power back to the states. No democrat has ever advocated for that in my lifetime.
Ok, but I'm in WA and we're paying taxes to subsidize states that ban women's healthcare and require kids to learn maga history. We supported Harris 70/30; we have democratic majority in our state govt. Checks and balances are an illusion and scotus is compromised beyond repair.
Unless you can somehow "un-gerrymander" your state and stop allowing folks to be disenfranchised, I'm not sure how you change things politically. The days of Ann Richards are long gone.
Actually, sometime back, there was a discussion on the formation of a country, Cascadia, that included California, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. We’re all for it.
There are a lot of ANGRY farmers in Ohio right now. There’s a lot of very skeptical people who are beginning to realize that they fell for the sliding-shell shimsham, and they get pissed when they feel betrayed.
No, we just annexed the part of Indiana that's on the lake Michigan border so we can leave them out of it. Ohio will need to change its government before it can join.
I mean, I would suspect it'd also be up to the residents of the states that were joining, within reason (for example, I think the option would be "all of the West Coast as one province, or California as one and Oregon/Washington as a second")
I know the feeling but I would rather we keep all the borders the same. No changes to each other's sovereignty. Reason why is because in every red state there are tons of democrats, immigrants, minorities, and other normal people who would be let down and hurt if we abandon them.
Probably, which is quite reasonable. I would just feel bad for the millions of blue voters who would be left out due to circumstances they might not be able to control.
Maybe they could throw in a brief window to immigrate for at least some of those folks. 🤔
Here in Michigan, Canada is north, east and even Windsor is south of us. We're closer to Canada than most states and we love hockey. Take us in.... please...
Please include New York. In the Buffalo-Niagara region there are areas here where Canada is south of us, we have Tim Hortons, and many of us already know the Canadian national anthem.
Can we also include from Maine to Maryland? Not necessarily for great lakes reasons, but there's a shit ton of other reasons we'd like to either join Canada or split off on our own at this point
You know we have conditions, right?
1. No guns.
2. None of your greatest whatever bullshit. Learn humility, and learn to decimate your enemies quietly.
3. Honouring treaty is non-negotiable
4. Hate isn't tolerated
5. You must learn real history
6. Learn to spell properly
7. Welcome to Canada!
If they can pass the background checks and obtain a Canadian PAL, let em bring their guns. They can join Canada's millions of legal, licensed gun owners who commit next to no crime and are safer than the general public
No thank you. I don’t want to walk through downtown wondering who is packing a gun. None of the USA gun culture is welcome in Canada.
Honestly they need to stay to save their own country.
The "concealed carry" permits bother me the most. The person standing behind you in the check-out lane at the grocery store could have a gun in their pants.
CCW permits are exceptionally difficult to get, anyway. You need to demonstrate a need for it, and safe storage laws still apply.
I think the big difference is we do not have the right to own a firearm - we're granted permission, which statistically makes people value their privileges a lot more.
Why would someone with a clean background, who goes through all the legal hoops, break our laws by carrying a gun? Would seem to be the criminals already to that plenty. Is every American gun owner a criminal?
Sounds no different than Conservatives wanting no different races/cultures here
If my memory serves correctly, a PAL only covers long guns anyway. There is another license for hand guns, which is harder to get and has super strict rules for.
Only in Northern Ontario. I'm not sure who was freaked out more, me or him. In retrospect, maybe I surprised him when he was on the prowl for a companion 🤣
I spend a lot of time on the sub-arctic for work. We've had both an angry moose and hungry wolves. All in all, I'd take the wolves. Much less likely to just bust through my house after me.
I'm sorry, I empathise with you, neighbour. Unfortunately, it's time you realise that no matter which way you colour it, it is imperative that you revise your spelling as a favour in exchange for citizenship 😉
Indiana will impoverish itself to open new toxic waste dumping plants on the Lake Michigan shore land that isn’t already refineries and steel mills…just to own the libs.
Right, and the Western Corridor of Canada will include Alaska, Hawaii, Washington state, Oregon and California. Mark Carney will be the Prime President.
This administration will try to open a great spigot from Lake Michigan to California. Might save a few lakefront cottages from sliding down the dunes & a lot of break wall expense, but otherwise probably not helpful.
Well, I hope you don't drink bottled water then, because it takes more water to make those bottles, than the water within. Also, the water is stolen from municipal water supplies. They're stealing 7¢/litre tap water and selling it to people for $2/20oz.
I think Canada would need to be more selective than just taking the entire states. There is a lot of Michigan that doesn't need to make the trip, for example.
Same with Illinois. Most of the central and southern part of the state can stay in the US. But I'm in a Chicago suburb, so would love to go to Canada. I even took French in HS; s'il vous plaît?

Also me...
Don't forget us!

- iron ore
- cheese
- US-made cars
- uh… Lincoln statuettes?…
CA, OR and WA are all in.
Our state government is already under the control of far-right billionaires, I don't want to ever hand those people more power.
2.2 million in Washington State.
dafuk is wrong with you
Where else? U.S. Virgin Islands, they’d join the British. At that point if its commonwealth.
So yeah King Charles, if you’re listening, we will trade the us vi for support in nato accession.
Collaborate on tech, education, etc.
There’s a chance. Slim. A chance.
Let's Go.

Welcome aboard.

Every driver on the road could be drunk...
Least the CCW holder is lawful. A few million people have a gun in their pants illegally and they're called "criminals"
I think the big difference is we do not have the right to own a firearm - we're granted permission, which statistically makes people value their privileges a lot more.

You're leaving out Erie and Ontario
For reference, PEI is about 2x the size of RI.
