Watch the separatist organizations as they ramp up their petition/referendum campaigns. Some are using it as an opportunity to call out the alleged corruption in Smith's government.

As Janet Brown put it: entitlement is kryptonite to Alberta Conservatives.

There are a lot of answers. From my perspective, because facts don't beat identity: if climate change threatens someone's worldview, tribe, or way of life, they’ll trust vibes over data... no matter how strong the consensus.

I think it's been the intergenerational turnover of IGR staff and politicians. Today's group has little memory of the 1980s and 1990s, and have ditched many important norms developed during that megaconstitutional period.

Success in IGR over the next decade will depend a lot on the willingness of prime ministers to institutionalize the system. Thank you for your response! In my limited perspective on the issue, I've noted a concerning lack of institutional historical perspective among current decision-makers. Hopefully we don't have to repeat the Meech Lake/separatist referenda failures of 30 years ago to relearn the same lessons.

The NDP's biggest challenge isn't policy-related. Most Albertans are onside with their positions.

Rather, the challenge exists in helping more Albertans realize they, themselves, are in the mainstream.

And that the NDP can actually win.

I used to take that train in the late 70's early 80's time frame and its an easy trip. Back then they were really old cars. Cleanish but old and no snack car.

• Also, consider the history of the Black men who worked as porters who have served that Montreal to Ottawa route for more than a century.

Standard Via for me. It's nice.

I was thinking about the porters as I jumped on the train!

Wifi is solid.

Train was only 15 mins late.

I did some standard Via rail as a child. Going to do some Via1 next week.

Get an appreciation for the track prioritization as you leave Montreal. Passenger train service is often lower than commercial traffic.
