Now Canadian taxpayers get to pay for a completely unnecessary by-election for Pierre Poilievre in Alberta to campaign so more, for some reason. He should resign. That would mean a Poilievre would actually have to get an actual private sector job.

Allowing PP a means to get back into parliament via the by-election ploy seriously disrespects voters; both those that rejected him in Carlton and those who might have the MP they elected, resign for that reason. Politicians supporting this kind of work around are guilty self-interested elitism.
Steve boots gives a good explanation for Carney doing this... I'm not thrilled about it but maybe by giving PP enough rope, he, and the cons, will hang themselves... popular opinion is certainly not especially pro PP.
And can you imagine the whining and divisive rhetoric that would be lodged at Carney by the CPC, if he didn't allow it? He said he didn't want to play games. Saying this out loud hopefully reinforces the attitude that all in government should adopt: don't act like children.
Well, given the public perception of PP esp. now a quick snap election wihtout time for a proper campaign might be worse for him.
Imagine he managed to lose a second "safe" district after a second set of shenanigans to stack his desk.
That is such a pervasive lie, repeated everywhere. It pisses me off when supposedly impartial CBC panel moderators say it as if it is established fact.
And this is saying something because after the provincial election earlier this year, they entirely redrew the boundaries of his riding and a large chunk of what was a much more ethnically diverse area was removed from his riding. Means he had less leftist voters and really should have won his seat
Is the expense really necessary? After all, we’re dealing with a CONservative in Alberta. It’s sort of a gimmeee; he doesn’t even have to leave his taxpayer mansion in Ontario. They’ll elect him and they’ll never see him again.
I cannot imagine he wants a job, when what he seems to believe he deserves is everyone's rapt attention in a huge wood-panelled environment with matching seating sporting velvet cushions & in total control of every scenario.
He should not get his by-election unless Dani calls one for Edm-Strathcona. I think the reason she hasn't is because she is scared to have Nenshi in the Ledge.
If I was a resident of Battle River-Crowfoot, & I had cast my ballot for Damien Kurek…I would be pissed that he stepped aside to make way for this loser. That he cast aside his oath to that community to make room for a loser who lost his riding.
Battle River-Crowfoot got a shitty “hand me down”.
I live in this riding, people here are generational conservatives. Unfortunately there are too many diehards that would vote conservative if the candidate was a potato.
I saw some of the news coverage in Battle River-Crowfoot…and you are correct. Some of the residents are excited. They also think he will live there (unlikely).
It’s just frustrating that taxpayers are on the hook for a byelectoon to help a conservative strategy to keep PP in office.
I totally agree. I would love to never hear or see from P.P. again. I don’t want the constant rage in the HoC’s. But, I live in a rural area in ON and I know that he’d be received well here too. So sad!
They need to load the ballot with Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater, Peter Pouter, PIerre Piddlewomper of the CPAP party, Pierre Polyester etc. etc. Find all the Peters and PIerres with last names starting with a P and create some party affiliations for them. At least make it a little tough for him.
He's booting a guy who has won his riding three times and won the last one with over 80% of the vote. The entitlement of Pierre and his wife is gross - they don't want to give up the free house.
He couldn't get a private sector job with a resume void of any real work experience. Oh wait, he did deliver the Calgary Sun when he was a kid. Yeah, if he had any honour, he would resign and deal with it.
What about the guy who actually did the work, earned the seat and whose family made the sacrifice of political life? Just short of getting his pension too. He just walks away? What sort of payoff is he getting?
Well, I'm not really surprised. The guy is shameless; his only identity is as a political megaphone for slogans and gish galloping; he has no marketable skills that extend past buffoonish, high school level trolling. Upside? The guy who quit for him is a Christian fundamentalist. Buh-bye.
How much of a loser do you have to be to not recognize that you are a loser. Battle River - Crowfoot deserves an MP that knows their issues and will represent the riding. I hope they vote in another local candidate who knows them and will speak for them. Poilievre is not that person.
You mean he would have to actually work??? He will do anything for that to happen so he can keep his slogans and sandbox politics in the HoC. Then live off the government and condemn any others who do it. #hypocrisy
An 82% CPC stronghold. He’s running again—why? Vanity. It’s a $1M taxpayer-funded ego trip. He doesn't care about anyone but himself. Just crown him and spare us the bill.
Can’t say I know enough about that riding—maybe it’s wishful thinking. But for 🇨🇦 unity, the best outcome would be kicking PP to the curb once and for all.
If the Cons are serious about people wanting change, let’s start with ridding us of Pierre Poilievre and then work on the hate speeches and unite people.
Contrary to the dipsticks out there telling people about a 58% tax rate in Canada, here are the new CRA tax brackets for 2025 and the tax rates that apply to each bracket:
$57,357 or less: 15%
$57,357.01 to $114,750: 20.5%
$114,750.01 to $177,882: 26%
$177,882.01 to $253,414: 29%
Over $253,414: 33%
If PP doesn’t resign, gets the Alberta seat, and continues as usual - no policies, slagging Carney, cheering MAGA, undermining science, sneering at journalists - there’s a good chance more than one Tory MPs will cross the floor to Carney. Real conservatives are tired of PP’s crap
The knives need to come out for PP. This move reeks of weakness and desperation. If the Cons ever want to get past Sask... Lose the Reform Wing and severe social conservative bent and get back to being Progressive Conservatives.
This fucking asshole accused Singh of hanging around for his pension
If Singh qualifies for his pension, he could draw more than $66,000 annually starting at age 65
A calculation of Poilievre's House of Commons pension indicates that he could draw more than $230,000 annually once he turns 65

The voters in Battle River-Crowfoot really ought to do the same.
Sounds like a great deal 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤬🖕
Battle River-Crowfoot got a shitty “hand me down”.
Kinda like someone we all know who ran for President to stay out of jail.
It’s all about himself and his own survival…nothing else.
It’s just frustrating that taxpayers are on the hook for a byelectoon to help a conservative strategy to keep PP in office.
What a bunch of horse shit!!
PP LOST his riding he's held for 20 years!!!
Why should it be OK to run in a new riding in a taxpayer funded bullshit special election??
Such bullshit!!!

He has been a professional politician for over 19 years.

$57,357.01 to $114,750: 20.5%

$177,882.01 to $253,414: 29%

How many times do they want to fail?!?
You can't explain that.
