I recall the other option is to cake your beard with vaseline so that the mask is able to make a seal, but that gets so gross so quickly. LOL

Last week at the Portland OR fleet week a bearded NCO said the gas mask fits better with a beard, particularly if you first moisturize or oil your beard.

All I can say is, ymmv.
