I wanted to be Michael Stipe when I was younger. inwas deliberately androgynous and wore a baseball cap backwards, had short hair. I thought he was the coolest thing on this earth.
I agree with you. no offence taken here, and here's the possibly controversial bit - their best track is Oh my heart. It still stops me in my tracks when I hear it.
I started thinking about the ideological/political implications of the practice of assuming that groups can always be treated as singular monolithic forms and now my head hurts.
I can't see anything wrong with the grammar. At most, it's maybe missing a comma but that's not even worth commenting on. As far as I'm concerned, if you can tell what someone is saying then their grammar is fine
Strunk and White have fully cooked so many American brains, I swear
I assume being American they’re taking issue with me saying saying are a good band rather than is a good band but who knows, I know how to do grammar I just don’t treat posting as a fuckin English exam
But saying "REM is a very good band" sounds clunkier and more awkward than the way you phrased it.
I don't want to deviate too far off topic, REM are a very a good band, but grammar pedantry pisses me off so much especially when the pedant themself is wrong
First time i saw them was on the Monster tour in Edinburgh and they were great.
Little stagecraft earlier on but they grew into it.
Once Stipe started moving during the Reveal tour it was more exciting for sure.
I like Shiny Happy People, but I can understand why the band hated it.
Stipe hated fans shouting for Radio Free Europe all the time much earlier in their career.
This is actually my problem with them, too much stuff, I haven't got time for that, why they couldn't just release a couple of good albums and then split up acrimoniously or drop off like every other band is beyond me. Comes across as a bit inconsiderate tbh.

only
I saw them live when they were really at their height though and he came across as a proper prick
