I like to make a book a read feel loved. Cracked spine, silly notes and doodles, scuffed edges. A used book is a loved book. The only time I don’t is if I plan to loan it out immediately or it is a loan from someone else
Me too! My books have cracked spines, are dog-eared and scuffed, have evidence of tiny coffee splashes (breakfast reading!) and such. I want my books to have lived out their life purpose, be well read and fully loved.
I've tried five times to read Hofstadter's "Godel, Escher and Bach"; but it defeated me each time, and I'd throw it against the wall. Hard. Maximally broken book spine.

Thankfully that person is dead and I’m now out here cracking spines left, right and centre!
I politely disagree.
I'm gonna try again soon.
