Every time I post about CPR, code status, etc., people get very mad at me, but at least maybe a few people will see it and think, "I should discuss this kind of thing with my loved ones to better understand their wishes" so you all can stay mad. I don't care.

If you take informed consent at its fullest meaning, a vanishingly small number of 95 year olds would actually consent to mechanical ventilation for anything but, like, angioedema maybe? We just fail to get informed consent on time.

I think knowing how this all works makes us less likely to want resuscitation attempts.
But the total ignorance about what interventions will accomplish is stunning.
We stopped teaching health classes and it shows.
We assume levels of understanding that just are not there. ESPECIALLY about dying.
Seriously though, it's so important to have the conversation. Mom is always very clear about what she wants and that makes it easier (sorta) on any future situations.
