I am utterly besotted with this marvellous John Dean Munroe Harvey painting of 1951’s Festival Of Britain by the South Bank of The Thames in London.

I was five. If time travel was possible, it would be the first place I would visit. So much hope.

There was a model of this on display in the Royal Festival Hall back in 2011, very impressive. I think I have a souvenir pin somewhere.

Lovely, the colour against the drab background really makes a statement that the exhibition was "special".

I hadn’t realised until yesterday’s picture just how tall the Skylon was.

And in context, with the lack of skyscrapers in London, I suspect it would gave been perceived in the day as Very Tall Indeed.

Gorgeous. Would love to have seen the Festival of Britain. The term retro-futurism comes to mind. Looks like a cross between Dan Dare, Thunderbirds and The Jetsons.
