What’s killing me is this isn’t just a flaw in government as much as it’s such breakdown in society. If one entire governing party wasn’t a goddamn death cult we have mechanisms to stop this sort of thing! It’s just so insane that the system isn’t designed to counter collective suicide!

Only insofar as it'd relate to someone like himself who lacks morals. He never trusted Superman because he *knows* what he'd do with that sort of power and the idea of someone wanting to help for no reward, no reason beyond 'it's the right thing to do' is literally beyond his comprehension.

This is basically the inverse critique of Obama et al, who allowed the president to accrue the powers of Superman on the assumption that a president would always have his level of morality or at least responsibility.

There are folks out there who forget that what makes Superman 'super' is his morality, not his powers. This is why he will always be something for us to strive to be, but also why we need to have safeguards against those who want the power but not the responsibility/morality.
