This is the case for so. many. things. They responded to being called racist by being incredibly racist. They responded to being called misogynist by being incredibly misogynist. And the whole time, they theatrically clutched their pearls that someone could suggest they weren't trying their best.

It's not even being called out by college students, it is being told by FOX "News" et al., that there are college students elsewhere in the US calling out other people - said to be like them - for being racist, sexist, homphobic, etc. Ofc, Dem politics of representation, not class, doesn't help.

I don’t think the right realizes that becoming the very thing they spent a decade loudly screaming is what the left really is will backfire tremendously on them. The second Trump is gone, anytime they try to cry foul people will go “yeah but your guy actually did that and worse so shut up.”

Yeah. In general with left-punching, there's this weird dynamic where the people doing it claim it's because the folks to their left can't distinguish them from far-right fascists. And like... given the rightward direction all the incoming fire is coming from, why should they?
