look I don’t know how this all plays out but “we’re too cheap to give you active duty benefits and are jerking you around on stupid bullshit” is not exactly the kind of thing that motivates people to shoot civilians in the street

LOL Hegseth ain't paying. Right now all they're talking about on military forums is how the deployments are broken up into 29 day blocks so DoD doesn't have to pay them active duty benefits INCLUDING no allowance for housing.
Bring these dudes some cold water. They'll keep ICE off your back.

They don't want to be there, the people there showing sympathy and mocking that it's an armed insurrection at the same time could be great.
(Although, having since learned more about Roman combat spacing, the advice was likely wrong in practice.)
Rule 2: TRUMP. NEVER. PAYS.
If your goal is to just shoot people, the guard ain’t your top choice for achieving it.
There are for sure *some* people that join to kill for their country - but not US citizens, & they are not career guys
Speaking from experience here,

They seem to think they can do fascist consolidation through sheer Nietzschean force of will.
And Trump’s cheapness will sink it because he thinks not paying his Janissaries will work out the same as stiffing mom and pop builders.
Those guard members didn't sign up to be ICE's bodyguards. Make them like you more than their bosses and they just might point those guns at the actual bad guys.
I think that such tasks are best left to the exceptional individuals who are able to make the people around them feel at ease and well before the tear gassing starts.
It's one way to stoke division.
Making them afraid they'll be barbecued is also great.
There's a good chance these folks signed up to pay for college, not to shoot people. They didn't *choose* to be in this position.
That said, we'll see how things go.
2) We're not talking about military service members in general. We're talking about the National Guard. Again, critical distinction
Not saying none of them are eager to get violent, but there's better options for that
But it's looking like they've been ordered to keep distance from the protestors and not interact. Good dehumanization tactic.
