CHARACTERS - DAY SIX: Fenris
Now, DA2 is a story all on its own but I'm not going to go there other than to sum it up as "we had just over a year and a half to make this". It's why I only wrote one follower, Fenris, and although it'll make his fans mad: I probably shouldn't have.
Let me explain.

Loved Gideon Emery's VO portrayal of him. πππ
The other big one at the time was Mass Effect 2, but I did notice something between the two games that always stuck with me. ME2 was very clean, you met your companion in their "Room" on the ship, you got the quest, you went and you did the-
Being a die-hard dalish elf player, Fenris ressonated a lot with me, I sure bought into his drama. AND HE WAS SUPER COOL! The big sword, the tattoos, the power, exciting!
His story was so unique at the time and you were brilliant for writing it. πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
Also seems most people (re)playing last few years get it and like the game.
Was Solas designed or inspired by Fenris in some way? I see a lot of similarities between the two characters, similar ideas but approached very differently.
From the perspective of a fan (and in a very broad sense) it just felt like Solas was made to be the opposite of Fenris. Fenrir/Dreadwolf, lyrium tattoos/anti-vallaslin, outward trauma/inward-trauma, mage-killer/apostate-mage, and so forth.
On top of that, Fenris became the quintessential "I can can fix him" romance and helped connect a new group of fans to the games.
Fenris is still my favorite character from DA2 after years. Party banter experience was chef's kiss.
If it's not super secret can I ask how Fenris died in canceled novel?
Thanks so much for sharing all of this with us!
I really hoped weβd see him in Veilguard but understand now w the tattoos weβll probably never see him again π
I always let my writers pick first. I figured they do their best work when it's something they're inspired to write... and they got so few chances at ownership, I wanted to give it whenever I could
In this instance, it meant I was left with the angry elven warrior character who nobody else appeared to want.
It feels a little silly that a original writer would not continue the character's story.
At least in programming, my experience is always working very closely with whoever wrote a particular piece of code if they are still with the company.
My goodness I love your writing π₯°
Me: (Actively shoving Anders into a locker to try to get Fenris approval) I have no idea what you mean
Also, I don't know if you intended this, but Fenris stops drinking in the last section, so it's more a story of beating addiction/overcoming anger.
