I’m hoping Irish twitter joins. One of my favorite days was when the queen died and Black twitter and Irish twitter came together. It was beautiful.

Won’t be a one front effort. Barrage of Lawsuits, probably all frivolous in hopes to get discovery and just drag down BlueSky. Expect regulatory assaults. Hopefully it ends there but the MAGAverse is full of dirty creeps. Just remember what Cohen used to do for Trump.

I think some of it also depends on how much merger between private & public power we see in the future.

Low degree of merger: mostly suits by Musk seeking to bankrupt Bluesky under litigation costs.

High degree of merger: that plus DoJ prosecuting Bluesky for accounts critical of Musk/Trump.

Initial distribution and reach was always a built-in problem when it came to Twitter-alts. Critical mass is hard to get, but once you’ve got it then a lot of good network effects kick in. My advice as someone who’s been here 14 months: delete Twitter and give Bsky 3 months. You’ll be happy you did.

I left Twitter a year ago when the main alternatives were this place and Threads. I never doubted my bet to go all-in here, and it’s looking better and better the past week. I don’t care about numbers, more that it’s attracting interesting people. Bsky now has the structure to build sustainably.

I haven’t missed Twitter at all since leaving in August ‘23. I thought I would, but it was surprisingly easy to leave once I took the app off my phone.

The Twitter you loved is gone. Build something here; we’ve been building in the background to be ready for what’s happened the past week.

I never made the moral argument for leaving Twitter because I understood in particular the catch-22 creatives and marginalized activists in particular were in. It was always going to be time when it was time. And they’re telling us it is time, so welcome and I hope they find community here.

But if I can leave it behind, so can you. I had a pretty large following there (about 17K people) that took a long time to build. It led to a lot of professional opportunities for me. It was an agonizing choice, but after leaving it was clear I was overthinking it.

I joined Bluesky back when on your invitation. I see more engagement now on Bluesky and it feels like twitter did 10 yrs ago. It’s a critical mass thing.
