I was today years old when I learned that Idaho passed a law making DEATH BY FIRING SQUAD their primary method of execution for inmates sentenced to death instead of lethal injection. Read that again.

to be honest, I think firing squad is more humane than lethal injection. They have so many laws governing the injection that inmates have experience unimaginable pain while the drugs didn't work. A bullet, done...not 20 minutes of agony.
Oh yes. If I were the loved one of a victim of a death row inmate, I'd want him to suffer as much as possible. As a person who does not have a loved one killed by a death row inmate, I have a hard time with the drawn out, agonizing death.
Sometimes these people are innocent/wrongly convicted.
YES and as a heavily involved Activist on our judicial system, I have been involved day 1 in the Idaho 4 case. The man they arrested, Bryan Kohberger is innocent and he's been fighting for freedom/exhoneration since he was arrested. They are trying to firing squad an innocent man!!!
At least it’s honest. The lethal injection protocol is not humane. It sanitizes the experience of the observers and the public at large. I am for a total moratorium on executions.
Isn’t that the state where one wife marries & all the rest of the wives & their spawn collect Welfare, Medicaid & SNAP, to “destroy the beast” federal government by starving it of any tax revenue ?
😢
Idaho, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Utah use the firing squad for the death penalty. In 2023, The Tennessee legislature debated about using the firing squad as a means of execution. On March 20, 2023, the bill passed the Idaho state legislature, and was signed by the governor.
Lethal injection just sounds more humane and less messy. It's not as fast or painless as we'd like to tell ourselves. The death penalty is just so many shades of wrong. If the state is going to sanction murder for revenge, it may as well be as morally messy as it seems for those performing it
Big sigh

It’s mainly because they cannot get lethal injection drugs. Companies won’t sell them the needed components if they are used for that.
The death penalty should be banned.
Fuckin’ Idaho. Beautiful state, really boneheaded people who keep electing extreme Republicans. No open primaries, they got a lock on it. I should know, I live here.
The real "win" is when they can just line up ten at a time and use the M-60. Soon, people will want to go *to* North Korea for some of that sweet freedom and concern for human rights!
I really wish there was a strong border wall between Canada and Idaho. It is a narrow bit that borders Canada but I just don't like that state touching us at all.
"Thou shalt not kill, unless like they're super bad, and in that case make sure you get some of their blood on the dirt otherwise their sins still count and stuff"
Blood atonement has always been a big thing with the men on the violent fundamentalist fringe. I lived in Utah from 1974-2001. From 1974-1981, Ervil LeBaron and his family went on a killing spree with over 25 victims & Ron & Don Laverty later accounted for some more. All based on blood atonement.
He was evil and so was the rest of his family. We moved to SLC in August 1974, at the start of their rampage. Everybody seemed a little scared. He was going after polygamists but that didn't make regular people feel any safer. I believe a bunch of LeBarons were killed in Mexico a few years ago.
Girrrrrl, where you been? They claimed it was because there was a shortage of lethal injection drugs. I wanna know how many mf’in people Idaho is killing that they ran out of drugs. There’s only like 35 people in the whole state…
Most states in the West provided a choice between hanging & firing squad is still an alternative in some of them besides Idaho. If a state is going to execute someone in the most humane way possible, it would use a .22 cal. bullet to the back of the head. Simple, instantaneous, & never fails.
Not sure that's how a 'firing squad" works. And in Idaho, I suspect your humane example is NOT what they're going for. Yeah, that's my impression of the people of Idaho.
In Utah, the firing squad was made up of 5 volunteers from the law enforcement community. The rifles used are secured at the prison. One of them has the firing pin removed. There are two sets of rifles in case more than one shot is needed. Once the rifles have been issued, a single round is issued
to each squad member. The prisoner is brought in shackled & put in a chair that is bolted to the floor His arms & legs are secured to the chair. He's asked for last words, then a hood is placed over his head & a small target is placed over his heart. The squad shoots from about 15 feet away.
I’m not condoning the death penalty. Historically, as I recall, death by firing squad was the honorable way to go [for soldiers], whereas hanging was for the dishonorable.
California is also Mormon country, and it shows any time we try to drag things closer to decency in our justice system. Death penalty here is only held back by gubernatorial moratorium.

As if that could ever happen.

Next we’ll be employing public whipping.
There is an argument that beheading is not as bad as you think.
