absolutely unpleasant vibes on the drive home from work tonight. like yes most drivers have become extremely horrible and aggressive since 2020 but i saw like 12 deeply unnecessary aggro decisions made in the span of like 15 min

def been noticing this in nyc as a pedestrian and as a bike rider. just today on my ride home someone just ran a red light because they wanted to. at least i had a chuckle about it with another rider besides me (and no one that i know of got hurt)
as a cyclist, i am also thinking about this all the time which is why i bike very slowly and try to make myself as visible as possible (vest, playing pop 2 as loud as it goes on my external speaker, etc.), but defensive, predictable biking won't protect you from other people's shit behavior
COVID did irreparable damage to people’s brains. People, especially those with repeat infections, are much more aggressive. That, combined with more stringent return to the office policies and a terrible job market - people are furious all the time now.
My commute is only about 10 minutes each way & that’s enough, the number of drivers who get as close to my bumper as they can just so they can peel off at the last minute, whip around me & blow a red light going 30 above the speed limit is off the charts.
The Constitution grants us all the right to believe that the drivers in their city are, in fact, the worst in the nation, but Atlanta does have to be up there for the Ballardian death drive you usually only find in Italian pedestrians and even so, the last year or so driving has become INSANE
I’ve got a long daily commute and it has been weird for the past couple weeks. I don’t know what’s going on in the collective subconscious but it’s not good.
