Yeah, right, sure Mr. President., but having to stall fabrication of cars or airplanes because we’re missing Chinese components is going to costs us how much?
1.Having a trade deficit (e.g. importing more than one exports) does not mean that a country is “losing” money. In practice, it means buying goods (often at lower prices) that consumers and businesses need. This money goes toward goods and services, not into a black hole.
2. Stopping trade does not mean savings. If trade with China is halted, the costs do not disappear - instead, companies may need to buy from more expensive suppliers, which increases prices for consumers and production. In fact, it could raise costs for the economy.
A mindset still in the 1950s where the US was the only country which had escaped the ravages if the 2WW and had demands exceeding the basics and the Mighty dollar was accepted as a World currency without question.
