The only thing that will really work is something that looks a lot more like universal healthcare, with far lower costs both to buy in and at the point of use. That doesn't mean eliminating private healthcare but it does mean raising the baseline for everyone so everyone ca always get care. - ThreadSky

But what's the path? This seems politically impossible in the US. Yet so many other nations have managed it. People tend to love their healthcare in countries that have it. Here it's smeared as "socialized" as if that's a bad thing. So much lobbying; so many entrenched interests.

Every other major industrialized country has figured this out. Our outcomes are worse but we spend twice as much. This should be a solvable problem.

With some fluctuations and exceptions (marriage equality …), consistent Overton Window shift to the right

Look to ACA: structured aligned with a Heritage originated approach yet a huge “left” win.

Ds have had "clear" majorities and still satisficed policy -- ACA / ObamaCare being great example. The policy was satisficed to win R votes. When not a single R would support it, the structure designed to appeal to 'moderate' Rs remained.

I was a Social Security Disability Examiner for many years. IMO many, if not most, applicants wanted healthcare more than a check. With good basic care most people would prefer to get well, and go back to work. We need Medicare for All.
