Reminder Obama already negotiated this under TPP without destroying American businesses in the process and creating market chaos— trump is just rebuilding the trans pacific partnership in the dumbest way possible
What these idiots don’t realize is that US car sales are often blocked overseas because their road infrastructure can’t accommodate the size of these cars. Japan is a mountainous country with lots of narrow roads. It’s practical not personal reasons that disqualify them.
Why on earth would a Japanese auto customer even consider an American vehicle?
More importantly, that enough customers would make the cost of the tariff remotely equitable based on total sales.
Everything else we have is just too large. Hell, even our MIDSIZED trucks are starting to get too big for Japan. America literally just doesn't make stuff for the Japanese market anymore.
The Maverick is the only American manufactured vehicle I’m considering for my next one and that’s because of my work. The price point and hybrid option caught my attention. If it weren’t for that, it’s a Honda or a Mazda for me.

Scary
Again
Also, as someone who lived in Tokyo for 8 years, American cars are too damn big for many of the streets and parking spots.

Japanese people, too.
Actually yeah, the Hybrid Mavrick and the Bronco Sport would sell pretty well there.
For Chrysler, obviously the Pacifica Plug in plus the Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Avenger electric/hybrid
For Chevy uh...the Trailblazer and Buick Envista? Like I'm grasping at straws
