Hes not great on LGBT+ stuff, but hes a Catholic pope, so thats pretty much expected. He also had PDF file priests doing shit on his watch, but I don't think any of the cardinals eligible to be pope didn't. There were a couple better options, but it could have been much much worse.

From what I get reading Prevost/Leo XIV is he was appointed by the previous pope (a Jesuit aka the more progressive of orders), he is of the Order of Saint Augustine (an order that prioritizes sharing, community involvement, academic inquiry & science) and was resistant to SA in quests.

I'd take the folk upset by the choice (from the left) with a grain of salt - he's not going to be a great leftist because he's the Pope, the leader of the Catholic Church - he can be only so far left before he's no longer qualified for the spot.

In that context he's not bad, so far.

Also for the SA stuff, yeah almost every Catholic religious leader was involved in covering up that shit in some way or another, it's a huge stain on the Church, and deservedly so.

Unfortunately you won't find a candidate clean of that who's also qualified - that just comes with the territory.
