Another day, another social media platform. It’s fun to try them out and do one’s best to determine their tone and flavour. How would more experienced skeeters characterise the air in here?

I used Twitter just before you and you followed me when you first set up, which was so exciting at the time (still is TBH). These platforms only work if people are on them and they are genuinely levelling. We'll see about this, it's my first day.
Wonder if you'll be posting more here now that there is a bigger mass move into Bluesky... I think many appreciate the better moderation and cleaner feeds.
Welcome here too, Stephen! All early networks seem to change once the masses are on. Maybe it's the early adopter culture which is a little different and makes them seem "different"... John Mastodon has Alf on here instead ;-)
An increasing number of young women who can't afford decent clothing but, so far, very few of the toxic nutjobs that ruined Twitter. Moderation seems to be better over here.
Hi Stephen - I'm David living in France (post brexit). Not experienced but wanted to try out a potentially more civilised air than I have been reading about on other platforms. So far the air is welcomingly fresh.
As a latecomer who joined the day before the Xodus, I'd say initially twas a Breath of Fresh Air after the #enshittification of the other platforms. Days later I'm finding it more Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
Come on in. The water's lovely, the sky is blue, and the spelling and grammar are much improved. It's almost as if the left-leaning general public is more educated. The platform undoubtedly needs more input from Britain and Europe.
Please use this platform as you once used Twitter.
It is similar, and post-diaspora users have self-selected as more open and receptive.
Ask Susie Dent for her take.
Imagine Twitter but with slightly less hate. Also, post here with the knowledge that every post and new account which is created on Blue sky manages to slightly upset the richest man on the planet. It's a power that people have never held before and it's amazing.
Thinking about Mr. Fry being on bsky just today. And here you are. Saw your charachter in @neilhimself.neilgaiman.com Sandman. Splendid. Hope you just enjoy life, no matter when or how much you post. Nuff said. Cheers.
'Skeeter critique' Stephen, here is a spiffed up version of the the "No Soup for you" message. What is the difference? It is staring you in the face like an adorable Kakapo except the 'ouch' you say when the bird roosts on your head - now you hear 'ouchtown' instead - How many tweaks were done?
My wife and I have also told all other social media platforms (meta, sh*tter, I mean X, and FB) to do one. So far, Mastodon and Blue Sky are the best alternatives. Love the air in her Stephen! 🙌 @jacg85.bsky.social an alternative to WhatsApp is "Session" which is for now, ok!
The air is fine, dear Stephan, and the water warm and lovely. The landscaping positively delightful. But the drinks are a bit on the warm side. OK for an ale, but lousy for the gin. I have no idea what it all means. But you are here, and I assume that absolves my ignorance.
Are you still grazing here Stephen? I think it’s time you got stuck into a good nosh - tastiest platform around 😋
I know I’d like some of your witty/insightful/clever/tasty morsels.
I wish you’d be here and check it out! It’s wonderful here! The bad people are easily blocked and you’re left with lots of kind caring folks who just want to work together for a better world. Please join us soon?!💞
Yes Sir !!! It smells like when you throw back the patio doors on an early Sunday morning and a fox tip toes in to see what's going on. Lovely to know you are here. Keep bowling those googlies 👍👍
You was probably my first follow.on Twitter many moons ago, and here you are following me on to something new👍Far better the Mastadon and not as toxic as X with all its ads.
The air? Not experienced, but I'm finding the atmosphere thoughtful, thought provoking and compassionate. I joined because of a podcast (Quiet Riot), warmly recommended. Great to find you here. Many thanks for your work, Mr Fry! I believe - and hope - you will enjoy yourself as much as I do here.
Honestly, Mr. Fry - I'm glad you're here, but I'm also wary. This is going to be a long 🧵and I hope you actually get a chance to read it. And I hope it causes you to change your mind about some things. I know that's a far hope, but I'm going to try anyway. (1/many)
When I was younger, and I was still figuring out who I wanted to be, I thought to myself: I would really like to be like Stephen Fry. Intelligent, erudite, but most importantly, a raconteur. Someone who knows how to tell stories and tell them well and entertainingly. Someone interesting. (2/many)
More importantly, through you, I learned British humour. Darker, but more delightful. Richer in variety and not afraid to be too clever for the audience. When I decided to move to another country during the Trump years, that was one of the reasons I moved to London (3/many)
I don't live in London, anymore. I was on track to become a permanent resident - four years out of the five required - when I had an epiphany that I was a trans woman. And I realized that if I tried to get the healthcare I *needed* - literally needed, I would have to leave the UK. (4/many)
As far as being gay or bisexual is concerned, the UK is far more accepting - encouraging, even. I can't be the only one to observe that there's a train line that goes from "Cockfosters" to "Arsenal", and they called it the "Piccadilly" line. That's just *camp.* (5/many)
But when it comes to trans people; the UK still classifies people who look male but act female as either a joke (Mrs. Brown's Boys) or a threat. I'm in Southern California now, and for the most part, I'm neither. I'm just a *person*. A *happy* person. (6/many)
Aaaand breathe, I'm hoping! Not sure yet - trying to get the hang of posting here. I've picked a motley mix of 'interests', so we'll see what...respires...?!! x Hope it's going well for everyone so far? Do tell!
I am pretty new here myself, but so far it feels much more like pre-Musk Twitter with an increasing number of reliable sources of information and far fewer trolls.
New in here, too. Taken a couple of deep breaths and can't smell anything but the universal faint waft of raspberries. Hopefully, someone's left a fanlight slightly ajar.
The air is fresh here on BlueSky, clear of the pollution that now infects and sullies the once thriving and wonderful Twitter. And I’m so glad you’re here Mr Fry(╹◡╹)
Just like the other place only lots less misinformation and Nazis. Oh and it’s not controlled by a wanna be Bond villain simping for oligarchs and crypto scams. Nice that he’s started restricting views and interaction from the poors though. Free speech and all that.
There seems to be a lot of reputable people pushing this platform, Stephen. Mike Scott from the Waterboys and The News Agent podcast. We need people like you to make sense of what the heck is going on in the world.
No pressure.
Not experienced at all. However I wondered if you would consider doing the American version of V over the next few years.
I believe it could be a piece of art that we will sorely need.
I’m finding it tricky wading though feeds I’m not interested in despite the algorithm quite correctly responding to my feed interests. A very strong US bias on here
Mr. Fry, when you deem the time right to explore using this site, we'll all be here for you. Until that time, hope you are doing well with all of your adventures, opportunities and interests.
This is a lovely platform and it is nice to see you are dipping your toes into it. Come Mr Fry, the game is afoot and the plot thickens. As our world descends deeper into darkness. We need all the good company we can muster, I trust you will join us.
Welcome.
After a mere 8 days here and but handful of followers, I'd say it's more interesting (some very informed people)
More stimulating than that other place (which seems to me to be going downhill quite fast).
So far, so early Twitter. Has become more buzzy than Threads with many journalists etc migrating to here, so starting to be a good source of news/opinion/discussion, as well as still being chatty.
We’ll see how it develops….
Well done or your Knighthood, Sir.
Thoroughly deserved and you are one who I am happy to give salutation, “Sir” - as you deserve it whereas so many miscreants do not warrant such an honour! 👌🥳🫡👏🙅🏻♂️⚒️
Just wanted to thank you for all the entertainment you have so far provided. fry & Laurie, Bertie & Wooster, Moab & wash pot, Greek books, QI & slackbladder … and now this. 🙌🏼👏👌
I’ve recently left the platform formerly known as Twitter, hoping this new space will be a worthy alternative. Your insights are invaluable, and regular posts from you could greatly enrich this community.
I urge you to consider posting more often to help build this platform into something special.
I hope it gets traction. How are you finding it? X is toxic and after Meta’s latest proclamation removing fact checking I’m hoping this might be a valid alternative.
it's a bit difficult, since the narrative has been divided up weirdly in the US so those who want non-interference in their bodies are on one side and those who want non-interference in their vocabulary are made to seem to be all on the other - of course the actual realities are not saleable,.,
The right side of History is on Bluesky Stephen. Twitter is a cesspit, right wing xenophobic cauldron of misdirected morons hellbent on creating a narrative of negativity. A bubble of misogynistic mayhem where male bravado is the order of the day. Relax and breathe...bluesky has you in better hands.
I'm an inexperienced skeeter but here's my take. "Skeeter" is all right, since it has that Southern hospitality/silly endearment vibe, but "skeet" as a verb... yipes. Someone didn't check Urban Dictionary. Or listen to the radio in the past 20 years.

If you’re worried about Prostate Cancer, and you’re a man, get your PSA checked. It’s a simple blood test. It will tell you your risk, then you can decide with your doctor, what to do next.
Definitely a lot less contentious than X is nowadays. It kinda feels like Twitter before it became an over-politicised battleground of online radicals lol.

Very curious about who that one person you follow is 😹

Of course virtually anything is better than Twitter nowadays. Deleted my account.
Threads is glutted with copy-pasted rage bait and engagement bait. Deleted my account.
Facebook is still best for just interacting with the people you already know.
I urge you to consider posting more often to help build this platform into something special.
My husband Stephen Adams looks like he could be your son.. he's from Lincolnshire.. 😁😁😁

I’ve tried Mastodon, Hive and Threads and yet I feel comfortable here with a similar desktop theme.
Let's hope another billionaire doesn't buy and manipulate this one to suit their ends.
Fresher.
Like having the sun on your face and the wind at your back. 🙂
