My mom paid the bill because I couldn’t bring myself to and UnitedHealthcare, after my appeal to the office of the CEO was denied because they claimed my husband’s insurance lapsed the second he died and they wound not cover the ambulance to the morgue, threatened me with collections.

And I know this is entirely too late, but I thought they could not go after you for your husband’s “debt”.
And I lost the argument!
YOU ARE A WARRIOR GODDESS surrounded by GREEDY MASS MURDERERING HEALTH INSURANCE MONSTERS.
This evil shall not be tolerated on this Earth.
Like many things done these days, these are not arguments they are unauthentic conversations, whose only purpose is to abuse us at our most vulnerable times.
Obviously it was never an 'argument' from their perspective. They saw an opportunity to unlawfully deny coverage, and everything else was justification after the fact, a farce with a predetermined outcome.
The US health system is shocking to us europeans
My own parents story would take too many words so I'm just going to tell you I understand the pain of dealing with an insurance company that values pennies over people.
That was horrific.
Thank you for sharing your story, it must have been difficult for you to write this.
Sorry for your loss, Data Bear
May you be comforted in your anger and grief.
Insurance companies are unacceptable.
The word "care" needs to be removed because in the US it's healthbusiness, never healthcare.
I remember seeing a notice on the ER waiting room stating that people could not be turned away due to inability to pay. That was 1980…
And fuck UHC.
Thank you for writing this.
Also, tell me if I’m out of line here, but the first response that came to mind was setting Drowning Pool’s Let the Bodies Hit the Floor to the clip of CEO getting dropped. Just felt narratively satisfying.
These bastards really don't care about having their shit together, or making it the slightest bit easier for the grievers.
I’m so sorry for your loss and suffering.

you are scared now just like those patients you pillaged were scared knowing that that non-payment you were with hold was their death warrant.
I am so sorry for your loss, and incredibly sorry for it having been that much harder because of United’s staggering mistreatment of you.
That's not the kind of correct you want to be.
So sorry 😞 you went through that. 🫂
I'm so sorry you had to go through all this pain and added anguish.
I'm so sorry for the loss of your husband, and then having to be abused and tormented by United.
I hope you're taking good care of yourself.
If the ceo was killed because of his United connections - the trial is going to be a wild ride because these stories will be endless.
Please don’t use language that encourages or celebrates violence.
I am sharing my experience with an insurance company not encouraging more harm in this world.
I look forward to more posts on your walk which I find so inspiring!
But this really did happen and claiming otherwise is really hurtful.
The truth is that everyone’s insurance lapses at the time of death but not every company enforces that as strictly as UnitedHealthcare.
I argued he was alive when I called 911 or I had no way to know that he had already died.
It’s shameful because the entire dispute hung on whether I should or could have recognized whether my husband’s body was lifeless.
My condolences 🙏 to you all xx
you didn't do anything wrong.
it's a horrible tragic death, and the insurance company can go straight to hell for implying otherwise.
The greed & inhumanity of our species know no bounds.
What the hell did UHC expect you to do? Call an Uber hearse??
For profit insurance is sheer evil.
The US healthcare system is a complete abomination.
Meaning if he paid in advance, by the month then he'd have been paid up to the end of the month - so was payment pro-rated to his date of death & any overpay refunded?
