Why would you do this? We need MORE random holidays. Australians are happy to contribute Melbourne Cup Day (richest 2 mile horse race in the world), Show Day (for the ag show), Easter Thurs through Mon, and the unofficial Monday after the AFL Grand Final (which is on a Sat, but still)
It never made sense to me to have July 4th be a holiday, when in proper countries like Sweden and Norway, everyone just takes the entire month of July off anyway?
Major holidays (according to the Dept of Commerce) are
1. New Year’s Day
2. MLK Jrs Birthday
3. Washington’s Birthday
4. Memorial Day
5. Juneteenth
6. Independence Day
7. Labor Day
8. Columbus Day
9. Veterans’ Day
10. Thanksgiving
11. Christmas
I would contend that the true heavy hitters are
New Year’s Day
Independence Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas
Who you gonna yeet? My hot take is that we cut Christmas, it's too sect-specific. Credential: I am a Protestant minister's wife and I approve this message. 😂
You may not know this... But I am a man of the people if anyone celebrates I will know. Also it's an upper Midwestern thing that I heard about from my in-laws.
