I'm delighted that there is a result in this court ruling favouring a person's right to wild camp without breaking the law on Dartmoor.
I believe with the right and reasonable measures in place this ought to be possible in other areas.

Great outcome! However, how do we safeguard against the growing blight & damage of ‘flycamping’ and those who simply feel they can put a tent where they like, cut trees down for fires, leave their waste behind etc .. a growing problem in parts of the UK (see for example @terrybnd

We refund outdoor education. Build Euro style aires. Pay people to be campsite wardens American style. Road pricing, Tourist taxes and active travel infra on the NC 500 and everywhere in Cornwall LD etc.

They are. Terry Abraham over on Twitter and on FB has sparked a lot of discussion about how to address the flycamping etc … most agree on tourist tax; extra police & national park staff; powers for park rangers; use of drones where appropriate; awareness & education campaigns and so on

Great news! It’s really a minority of moronic fly campers that give us all a bad name. Responsible wild campers that I know take pride in leaving no trace. I feel bad if I so much as flatten the grass! Pitch late, (alone), strike camp early and LEAVE NO TRACE❤️

Be careful what you wish for. Not everyone who visits, and camps in, wild places looks after and respects them; too often they pollute, damage and vandalise them. With rights come responsibilities, but too few people embrace both and too many people act selfishly irrespective of the consequences.

Unfortunately it doesn't work in many parts of the Lake District. Every summer (well from Easter to Sept) there's abandoned camps, litter, damage to trees (firewood!)... Of course, it's not all wild campers; but once the message is out "you can camp here", the problem will only get worse.
