So far as I know, there was never a ball in its center. It is my wife who pointed it out to me. There are several and they have been covered with snow for several weeks. She is the Gardner of the family, I the laborer.

Really colorful and dynamic picture! It gives the "dance" a sort of implied motion, the Stereum is slowly curling its fungal arms around the moss sprig.

That mushroom also looks like bacon, if bacon were to try to emulate one.

It’s a Stereum mushroom, they grow a lot here. I’m not sure which particular variety because they can have some overlap in how they look, and multiple kinds of Stereum are found in these forests. A lichen is a composite organism with fungus and algae. This one doesn’t have the algae component.

Amanita muscaria - fly agaric. That’s a young one. It’ll grow out to be the quintessential red mushroom white white spots 🍄
It’s (mildly) poisonous, if you eat it you’ll probably have a bad time.
