I think there will be a yearning for art. In a similar manner to how there’s a charm to 2D traditional and stop motion even in the age of 3D animation (not badmouthing 3D. I enjoy it too). But the more artists pull back the curtain and show the handmade process, the better.
"do almost anything" is a big stretch, still haven't seen it achieve anything but mediocre results, and it can't even do that without the help of at least one professional
I saw this today and cannot believe how far generative AI has come in just a couple of years. It's not that GenAI is going to overtake traditional art, but it certainly raises the question (again) of "what is art?", no better question to spark more art, if you ask me.
Ideally we'd stop referring to what AI makes as art altogether. Seems to me people care about art and seek out meaning in it because someone put meaning into it. An amalgam surfacing from the sea of information is interesting, perhaps, but not artistic.
I mean, debating 'what is art' is as old as time, you can easily argue that the output of people using GenAI is art, technically. I don't agree it's VALUABLE art, but it's something that exists.
Mmm, I can't really make it fit with any useful definition of art I've seen. To my way of thinking at least, art implies an expression of someone's creativity. When AI does all the creating, it no more reflects my creativity than me liking the concept of a novel qualifies me as having written it
It's subjective (hence the debate), and I don't consider myself an artist (whereas you clearly are), but I guess my sticking point is the "valuable" part. Even a kid smearing some paint on a canvas with their hands seems inherently valuable to me in a way that AI "graphics" just don't
Yeah these are just creepy ads with no context, its just mimicry. It'd still take a team of professionals doing 90% of the work to make something with a shred of substance.
Can't wait for whatever fresh new horrors this'll bring into the world tho.
Start with a movement: the Specialità Tradizionale Garantita️ Digitale so consumers know its human created and can easily identify it as such. Then a Micheline Star like system can form, and creatives can ultimately raise values akin to the best chefs or traditional arts.

Imperfections, creative flourishes, the messes and mastery.
Might be overly optimistic but I think there will be a silver lining
