Napkin maths??? We want a full spreadsheet file, with pie charts, multiple sheets, scripts and all. We need to plead our case to the IMF for a $50B credit line.
lots of uncertainty of so a lot of is based off of estimations. But assuming some very conservative figures (e.g. global population 1M, 50% spend on art is $100 pa on art; 1,000 fursuit related sales pa averaging $1300 each, $65M in convention activity, etc)
That roughly jibes with my estimates, with that being about 50-75% of actual so possibly as high as 250M being reasonable still with non-art consumables, video game/communal art purchases, etc.
1 million furries worldwide sounds too low, a rate of about 1 in 7 thousand people. But on the other hand, it could be a good number for active participants in the fandom.
Depending on some of the estimates that some people have especially related to population count, I'd say the expected range of the GDP of the fandom is going to fall somewhere in between $100M to $1B USD pa
should clarify that this is for in-fandom activity (e.g. art, fursuits, merchandising) and direct consequences of fandom activity (e.g. conventions stimulating local retail and hotel bookings)
Couldn't estimate a lot of things like other consequences of trade (e.g. art supplies for digital >>
commissions or materials for merchandise/fursuits), stimulated economic activity from increased visibility and networking (e.g. furries finding leads for each other or starting ventures together), and benefits from increased economic participation (especially from under-represented groups)

that puts the figure at $150 million
