Using Sej's UnXplore pipeline (https://doi.org/10.1128/MSYSTEMS.01468-21) we dug into human metagenomes to expand the diversity of these viruses! 💻🦠
Interestingly some human samples have as many as 200 distinct anelloviruses in them!
1. 95% of the events we detect are between viruses of the same genus.
2. the part of the genome encoding ORF1 (the capsid and main anellovirus protein) is a recombination coldspot
2. the sequence of the replication loop, required for cleavage of the circular DNA before replication.
