This isn't actually true. Liberal economists have argued that free trade with a country like China, which engages in heavy government subsidy, effectively forces you to accept the inverse of China's industrial policy. The free market only works when the whole thing is free.

China is effectively engaging in the illegal monopoly business practice of price manipulation. They have the same predatory pricing model as companies such as Amazon, where a good is supplied below the cost of manufacture to drive competition out of business.

I hope we understand that trade, by nature, is intended to grow the pie, not just divide it. So it’s usually NOT a win/lose activity. Trumpistas don’t seem to understand that in good trade environment, nobody “beats” anybody.
